To determine the effects of early rearing system on meat quality traits, fatty acid and amino acid profiles of meat, 48 Hu lambs were selected and randomly divided into four treatments: control lambs were ewe‐reared from birth to 60 days of age (ER), while treatment lambs were segregated from their dams at 10, 20 and 30 days of age, then artificially reared with milk replacer until 60 days of age (EW10, EW20 and EW30, respectively). All lambs had no access to the milk replacer or their dams from 61 to 90 days. Creep feed was supplied ad libitum to all lambs from 15 to 90 days of age. Artificially reared lambs (EW10, EW20 and EW30) had higher (< .05) creep feed intake, average daily gain, slaughter weight, hot carcass weight, meat ether extract content, bright meat color (lightness and yellowness) than ewe‐reared lambs. The content of unsaturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids in EW10 and EW20 were greater (< .05) than that in ER, whereas the proportions of saturated fatty acids in EW10 and EW20 were lower than that in ER (< .05). The percentages of C18:0, C18:2, C18:3 and the ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acids of artificially reared lambs were greater than ewe‐reared lambs (< .05). The meat proportions of leucine, alanine and proline were higher (< .05) in artificially reared lambs than ewe‐reared ones. Finally, the artificially reared system increased meat production and changed the fatty acid and amino acid profiles of meat, and it would be appropriate to rear Hu lambs artificially from 10 days with milk replacer.  相似文献

为了探讨代乳料原料的不同组合效应对早期断奶羔羊的饲喂效果,选取25只甘肃高山细毛羔羊,分为5组,每组5只,对照组羔羊由母羊自由哺乳和放牧;试验组羔羊30日龄断奶,饲喂4种代乳料:A组主原料未膨化,B组主原料膨化,C组主原料膨化+血浆蛋白粉,D组在C组基础上增加乳清粉。试验期为30~90日龄。结果表明:50、70日龄时,对照组羔羊体质量最大,试验组羔羊受断奶应激的影响,相应指标较小。90日龄时,D组体质量显著高于B、C组(P0.05),超过了对照组。30~90日龄阶段,D组日增体质量最大,且显著高于B、C组(P0.05)。对照组脾脏质量显著高于4个试验组(P0.05),且脾脏指数最高。说明在代乳料中添加血浆蛋白粉及增加乳清粉,有利于羔羊健康发育,使代乳料的饲喂效果最佳。  相似文献

为探讨代乳品营养水平对高寒牧区早期断奶羔羊的饲喂效果,选取30只10日龄的甘肃高山细毛羊羔羊,分为5组,其中对照组(E)羔羊由母羊自由哺乳,并放牧;试验组羔羊10日龄断奶,分为A、B、C、D 4组,代乳品消化能、粗蛋白含量相应为18.5 MJ/kg2、3.0%,20.0 MJ/kg、25.0%,21.5 MJ/kg、27.0%,23.0MJ/kg、29.0%,试验期至90日龄。结果表明,50及70日龄时,对照组羔羊体质量高于试验组;90日龄时,C、D组羔羊体质量显著高于A组(P0.05),E组高于A、B、C组(P0.05),而D组与E组差异不显著(P0.05);E组瘤胃指数显著低于B、C、D组(P0.05),肾脏指数、肝脏指数显著低于各试验组(P0.05)。上述结果显示,高寒牧区羔羊10日龄断奶时,采食消化能23.00 MJ/kg、粗蛋白含量29.0%代乳品的体质量与未断奶羔羊无显著差异,生长发育情况优于其他低能低蛋白质的早期断奶羔羊,早期断奶羔羊的胃肠道和肝肾发育程度高于未断奶羔羊。  相似文献

本试验旨在研究代乳品和开口料的饲喂对哺乳中后期羔羊生长性能、血清生化指标和营养物质表观消化率的影响。选择体重相近的30日龄羔羊75只,随机分成5组,每组3个重复,每个重复5只。各组分别饲喂代乳品1+开口料(A组)、代乳品1(B组)、代乳品2(C组)、母乳+开口料(D组)和母乳(E组)。分别在30、40、50、60、70日龄称重并对体尺进行测量,68~70日龄连续收集3 d粪样测定营养物质表观消化率,在70日龄颈静脉采血测定血清生化指标。结果表明:1)30、40、50、60、70日龄D组体重、体长、体高、胸围高于A、E组,E组高于B组,B组与C组间差异不显著(P0.05);但60~70日龄期间,A组平均日增重显著高于D组(P0.05),B组显著高于E组(P0.05)。2)血清尿素氮含量及谷丙转氨酶、谷氨酰转移酶、乳酸脱氢酶活性组间差异不显著(P0.05);血清总蛋白和甘油三酯含量D组显著高于A组(P0.05),E组血清甘油三酯含量显著高于B、C组(P0.05);血清白蛋白和球蛋白含量A、D、E组之间差异不显著(P0.05),但D组有增高趋势,E组显著高于B、C组(P0.05);血清葡萄糖含量A、D、E组显著高于B、C组(P0.05);A组血清碱性磷酸酶活性显著高于其他各组(P0.05);B、C组之间上述血清生化指标差异均不显著(P0.05)。3)各营养物质采食量A组显著高于B、C组(P0.05),B、C组之间差异不显著(P0.05);干物质、钙、磷表观消化率差异不显著(P0.05);粗蛋白质、总能、中性洗涤纤维和酸性洗涤纤维表观消化率A组显著高于B、C组(P0.05),且B、C组差异不显著(P0.05)。由此可见,代乳品和开口料的饲喂对羔羊生长性能、血清生化指标及营养物质表观消化率有不同程度的影响,羔羊代乳品加开口料的饲喂模式可实现羔羊的早期断奶,具有一定的推广价值。  相似文献

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with a mixture of essential oils (MEO), yeast culture (YC) and malate on performance, nutrient digestion, rumen fermentation and blood metabolites of lambs fed high‐concentrate growing diets. For this purpose, twenty Baluchi lambs (17.3 ± 0.5 kg body weight and 3 months old) were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments in a completely randomized design with five lambs per treatment. The treatment groups were as follows: (i) control: basal diet without any additive, (ii) basal diet plus 400 mg/day MEO (thymol, carvacrol, eugenol, limonene and cinnamaldehyde), (iii) basal diet with 4 g/day YC and (iv) basal diet plus 4 g/day malate. No differences between the dietary treatments were observed in dry matter intake, average daily gain or feed conversion ratio (p > 0.05). Compared with control and malate treatment, lambs fed MEO and YC had an improved crude protein digestibility (p < 0.05). Yeast culture significantly increased (p > 0.05) cell wall digestibility compared to the other treatments. No differences were observed between treatments with respect to nitrogen balance or ruminal pH and ammonia concentrations (p > 0.05). No differences were observed between treatments with respect to ruminal total volatile fatty acid concentration and molar proportions of acetate, butyrate and valerate. Molar proportion of propionate was higher (p < 0.05) for YC and malate compared to control and MEO. Plasma glucose concentration was higher (p < 0.05) in lambs fed YC and malate than in lambs fed the control or the MEO diet. Blood concentration of triglycerides significantly decreased when feeding the MEO and YC diets (p < 0.05). It was concluded that YC may be more useful as a feed additive for manipulation of rumen fermentation in lambs fed with high‐concentrate diets than MEO and malate, because YC enhanced crude protein and cell wall digestibility, ruminal molar proportion of propionate and plasma glucose concentration.  相似文献

Zinc (Zn) is a potent antioxidant and plays a key role in scavenging free radicals. We hypothesized that supplementation of Zn would reduce the oxidative damage, which is linked with poor sperm quality. Sixteen bucks of similar average age (2 years) and body weight (41 kg) were randomly divided into four groups viz., 1, 2, 3 and 4 supplemented with zinc sulphate into the diet at the rate of 0, 50, 100 and 200 mg/buck/day, respectively, for 3 months. At the end of the experiment, semen samples were collected and assessed. Seminal plasma was separated to find the concentration of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and trace minerals (Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe). The results revealed that semen volume (1.85 ± 0.01 ml) and sperm motility (88.23 ± 5.77%) increased significantly (p < 0.05) in supplemented groups compared with the control specifically in group 3. SOD (10.66 ± 0.23 inhibition rate %) and GPx (23.55 ± 0.49 mU/ml) increased significantly (p < 0.05) in group 3 with no effect on AST and ALT. Among seminal plasma trace elements, no significant change (p > 0.05) was observed. From the present results, we concluded that zinc sulphate at the rate of 100 mg/buck/day improved semen traits and seminal plasma antioxidant capacity in Beetal bucks.  相似文献

Grape pomace is a by‐product of winemaking process and rich in bioactive compounds such as plant polyphenols having antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. As known, oxidative stress may cause a number of pathological conditions in farm animals and thus affecting animal welfare and production. Moreover, pathogenic bacteria affect animals’ health status. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate whether lambs’ feed supplemented with grape pomace enhances the antioxidant mechanisms and reduces the growth of pathogenic bacteria. For this purpose, redox status was assessed in blood and tissues using oxidative stress markers in lambs fed with diet supplemented with grape pomace. Moreover, the effect on bacterial growth was assessed by examining microbial populations in lambs’ faecal microflora. The following oxidative stress markers were assessed: reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase activity (CAT), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances (TBARS) and protein carbonyls (CARB). Twenty‐four lambs were assigned to two experimental groups receiving standard or experimental diet for 55 days. Blood and tissues (liver, quadriceps muscle, spleen, heart and brain) were collected at two different time‐points, 42 and 70 days post‐birth, after ration administration. The results showed that lambs fed with experimental diet had significantly increased antioxidants mechanisms in blood and tissues as shown by increases in CAT and GSH compared to control. Moreover, lambs fed with the experimental diet exhibited decreased oxidative stress‐induced damage to lipids and proteins as shown by decreases in TBARS and CARB respectively. In addition, the experimental diet enhanced the growth of facultative probiotic bacteria and inhibited the growth of pathogen populations such as Enterobacteriacae and E. coli. This is the first study investigating the effect of diet supplemented with grape pomace on the redox status and microbiota of lambs.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the long-term effect of using bee venom (BV) on the reproductive performance, immune, and health status of rabbit does and its effect on their litters. Sixty mature does, from Spanish V-line rabbit stock, were randomly assigned to four homogeneous groups with 15 does each. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd groups were injected twice weekly under the neck skin with 0.1 ml solution contains 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mg BV/rabbit respectively. The 4th group served as a control group. From the results, litter size at birth, litter weight and survival rate at weaning age as well as milk yield were significantly (≤ 0.05) increased in BV groups than in the control group. Serum estradiol 17-β (E2) was significantly (≤ 0.05) higher (15%) in the rabbit does treated with BV compared to the control group. The treated does with BV at any study doses showed a gradual and significant (≤ 0.05) decrease (12%) in serum progesterone levels (P4) compared to the control. They also showed a significant (p≤0.05) increase in conception (17%) and fertility rates (10%) compared to the control does. Treatment of rabbit does with BV caused a gradual and significant (≤ 0.05) reduction in both aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (16%) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (37%) liver enzyme activities. Additionally, results have shown that BV resulted in a gradual and significant (≤ 0.05) increase in total antioxidant capacity (TAC), antioxidative enzymes such as glutathione S-transferase (GST) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), serum IgG, IgM and IgA levels with significant (≤ 0.05) decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in BV groups compared to the control group. Results suggest that BV can be used in rabbit farming as an effective and safe alternative to artificial chemical drugs (sexual-stimulants) to improve certain reproductive traits, immune response and health.  相似文献

Maternal periconceptional undernutrition is associated with altered development and increased risks of adverse outcomes in the offspring. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of periconceptional undernutrition on behavioural and reproductive aspects of the offspring. Fifty ewes were synchronized in oestrus (day 0) and allocated to two groups (n = 25) to be fed diets that provided 1.5 (C) or 0.5 (L) times the requirements for maintenance until day 15. Ewes were mated and fed the control diet from day 16 until lambing. Two months after lambing, 26 lambs were exposed to tests to determine their cognitive/emotional responses. Six ewe lambs were euthanized and in vitro oocyte maturation and fertilization procedures performed. The experimental diets produced no changes of mean live weight (LW) of C ewes, L ewes presenting a reduction in their initial LW with significant differences at day 15, in comparison with C ewes (p < 0.05). L ewes experienced a significant reduction in their body condition (BC) in comparison with C ewes (p < 0.05). Fourteen days after the onset of the experimental diets, mean LW and BC of L ewes was significantly lower than those of C ewes (p < 0.05). Undernourished ewes presented a trend to a reduction of prolificacy and fecundity (p < 0.10) in comparison with C ewes. Emotional and cognitive test revealed a similar response between groups. Ewe lambs from the undernourished ewes presented a population of oocytes 1.7 times higher than ovaries from control ewe lambs (66.0 ± 0.73 vs. 113.7 ± 15.6 oocytes; p < 0.05) and had more oocytes in the ‘good’ (p < 0.05) and ‘healthy’ (p < 0.05) categories. In conclusion, a low plane of nutrition around conception significantly increases quantity and quality of the oocyte population of 60‐day‐old female descendants. Modifications of the cognitive and emotional responses of the progeny have not been evidenced.  相似文献

本试验旨在研究蛋氨酸水平对羔羊体况发育、消化道组织形态及血清抗氧化指标的影响。试验选取12对7日龄断母乳的湖羊双胞胎公羔,采用配对试验设计,分为对照(CON)组和低蛋氨酸(LM)组,1对双胞胎羔羊分到不同的组中。试验分2个阶段进行,第1阶段(8~56日龄),CON组羔羊饲喂基础代乳粉和基础开食料;LM组羔羊饲喂的代乳粉和开食料在CON组基础上分别全部扣除(0.70%和0.40%)额外添加的蛋氨酸,其余营养水平保持一致。第2阶段(57~84日龄),2组羔羊停止饲喂代乳粉且饲粮均为基础开食料。在56和84日龄,各选取6对双胞胎羔羊进行屠宰,分离消化道组织,采集血清样品。结果表明:1)在采食量方面,LM组羔羊对蛋氨酸采食量在8~56日龄、8~84日龄阶段均极显著低于CON组(P0.01),而干物质采食量却均显著高于CON组(P0.05);在体尺指标方面,56日龄,LM组除体重、体斜长、胸围和体长指数显著低于CON组(P0.05)外,其他体况发育指标2组间均无显著性差异(P0.05);84日龄,2组间体况发育指标均无显著性差异(P0.05)。2)56日龄,LM组羔羊的瘤胃乳头宽度显著低于CON组(P0.05),2组羔羊的其他消化道形态发育指标差异不显著(P0.05)。3)56日龄,LM组羔羊血清中超氧化物歧化酶活性极显著低于CON组(P0.01);84日龄,LM组羔羊血清中除谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶活性显著低于CON组(P0.05)外,2组羔羊的其他血清抗氧化指标差异均不显著(P0.05)。结果提示,饲粮低蛋氨酸水平抑制了羔羊体况(体重、体斜长、胸围、体长指数)发育及瘤胃乳头宽度的增加,同时降低了机体血清中超氧化物歧化酶活性,然而却提高了干物质采食量;提高饲粮蛋氨酸水平后,羔羊体况发育及消化道组织形态发育也随之得到补偿,但机体抗氧化防御系统仍未得到完全改善。  相似文献

本试验旨在研究蛋氨酸限制与补偿对羔羊生长性能及内脏器官发育的影响。选取12对1周龄断奶的湖羊双胞胎公羔羊,采用配对试验设计,每对双胞胎羔羊分别分到2组中。第1阶段,2~8周龄,分别补充[基础代乳粉+0.70%蛋氨酸,基础开食料+0.40%蛋氨酸,对照(control,CON)组]和限制蛋氨酸[基础代乳粉,基础开食料,限制(restriction,RES)组];第2阶段,9~12周龄,2组羔羊饲喂相同的饲粮(基础开食料+0.40%蛋氨酸)。在8和12周龄末,各选取6对双胞胎羔羊进行屠宰,分离内脏器官并称重。结果表明:1)8周龄,RES组的体重显著低于CON组(P0.05);2~8周龄,RES组平均日增重极显著低于CON组(P0.01),而RES组料重比显著高于CON组(P0.05);9~12周龄,2组平均日增重和料重比均无显著差异(P0.05)。2)8周龄,RES组的宰前活重、空体重、胴体重均显著低于CON组(P0.05),但2组间的屠宰率无显著差异(P0.05);12周龄,RES组和CON组宰前活重、空体重、胴体重、屠宰率均无显著差异(P0.05)。3)8和12周龄,2组的各内脏器官在重量、占宰前活重比例均无显著差异(P0.05)。4)8周龄,RES组的瘤胃重量显著低于CON组(P0.05),其余各胃肠道指数均无显著差异(P0.05);12周龄,2组间各胃肠道指数也无显著差异(P0.05)。由此可见,限制饲粮蛋氨酸水平降低了羔羊瘤胃重量、生长性能和屠宰性能,恢复饲粮蛋氨酸水平后,羔羊生长性能及内脏器官发育状况也随之恢复。  相似文献

Effects of milk replacer composition and intake on the growth of orphan foals were evaluated. Twenty foals were assigned to four treatments: 1) mare-nursed, 2) commercial foal milk replacer at recommended intakes (standard), 3) commercial foal milk replacer at high intakes (high), and 4) acidified replacer at recommended intakes (acidified). Foals fed milk replacer diets were weaned at 12-24 hours postpartum and fed milk replacer for 50 days. Mare-nursed foals were weaned between 52 and 56 days of age. Foals fed replacer diets gained 12% to 28% less weight than mare-nursed foals up to two weeks of age. However, by four months of age, weights of replacer-fed foals were similar to those of mare-nursed foals and 32 other mare-nursed foals at the farm weaned between three and four months postparium. Foals drank 10 to 12 L/100 kg body weight (BW) in fluid replacer daily over the trial period. During the first week, high intake foals consumed 26% more replacer (p<0.05) than foals fed acidified or standard diets. This higher intake resulted in diarrhea earlier (6-11 days vs 11-22 days) and for a longer time (6.3 days vs 2.5-3.6 days) than in foals fed recommended amounts. Mare-nursed foals developed “foal heat scours” in the second week postpartum. After the first week, foals fed high replacer diet voluntarily consumed the same volume of fluid replacer as foals fed the standard intake. Foals ate less than 1 kg grain mix/100 kg BW daily to one month of age, then increased intake to 1.5-2 kg/ 100 kg BW to weaning. Water intake was 20-40% of daily fluid intake and was correlated (r = 0.85) to dry matter intake. Foals in the high intake group ate less (p<0.05) solid feed and drank less water than foals fed the standard and acidified diets. The foal's stomach capacity appears to limit meal size and thus replacer intake. If recommended feeding intervals are used, replacer intakes by foals are less than 15% BW daily. High volume intakes appeared to prolong diarrhea. Normal growth rates occur when replacer and good-quality feeds are fed concurrently.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of a Ca salt supplement on lactating Awassi ewes and their lambs. Ninety Awassi ewes (average BW = 55 kg ± 1.13) were allocated into three treatment groups of 30 each; 0%, 3%, or 5% Ca salt supplemented groups. The experiment started at lambing and lasted for 60 d. During this period, milk production and composition, final body weights, total feed intake, serum cholesterol and triglycerides, weaning weights of lambs, and milk fatty acid profile were tested. Milk production and energy corrected milk increased (P < 0.05) with Ca salt level in the diet. Milk fat content was higher (P < 0.05) at 3% treatment group compared to 0% and 5% treatment groups. However, no differences were detected in content of crude protein and total solids, and milk energy value. Milk fat yield (g/d) increased (P < 0.05) as Ca salt in the diet increased. Final body weight was higher (P < 0.05) for 5% group when compared to the 0% group with no differences between the 3% group when compared to 0% and 5% groups. No differences were observed in feed intake of ewes. Metabolizable energy intake was greater (P < 0.05) for the 3% and the 5% treatment groups when compared to the 0% treatment group. Feed to milk ratio increased (P < 0.05) when increasing the level of Ca salt in the diet. Serum cholesterol was greater (P < 0.05) in the 5% treatment group than the 0% and 3% treatment groups for ewes and lambs. Serum triglyceride was similar among treatment groups in ewes whereas serum triglyceride was greater (P < 0.05) for lambs in 5% treatment group than 0% and 3% treatment groups. However, serum triglyceride was similar in ewes among treatment groups. Weaning weights and average daily gain of male lambs were higher (P < 0.05) in lambs fed Ca salt (3% and 5%) when compared to 0% treatment group. No differences were detected in weaning weights and average daily gain of female lambs among treatment groups. However, milk conversion ratio was better (P < 0.05) for the 5% group lambs than the 0% and 3% treatment groups. Ca salt reduced (P < 0.05) short and medium-chain milk fatty acids and increased (P < 0.05) content of long chain and unsaturated ones. These results of this indicate that Ca salt supplementation can improve milk production of lactating ewes, the growth rate of their lambs, and produce healthy quality value milk.  相似文献

In order to determine oxidative stress in equine joints with degenerative processes, we analyzed synovial fluid (SF) antioxidant capacity and the concentration of oxidative damage biomarkers in healthy and chronically damaged metacarpophalangeal joints. SF samples were collected from joints of thirty 2–5 year-old crossbreed male equine, macroscopically classified at post mortem inspection and later histologically confirmed. The antioxidant capacity was determined measuring uric acid and the concentration of sulfhydryl groups and the total radical trapping antioxidant potential (TRAP). The oxidative damage was determined by assessing malondialdehyde (MDA) and carbonyl protein concentration. TRAP was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the group with chronic damage (CD). The sulfhydryl groups and concentration of uric acid did not show significant difference between the groups (p > 0.05). Although carbonyl concentration did not show significant difference between groups, it was slightly higher in the group with CD (p = 0.05009). Concentration of MDA did not show significant difference (p > 0.05) between groups. The observed significant increase in TRAP in the group with CD could be related to the participation of components other than protein, sulfhydryl groups, or uric acid coming from degenerating joint tissues. These findings could be helpful for a better understanding of the oxidative stress role in equine joints with chronic degenerative process.  相似文献

This experiment was carried out to examine the effect of grapeseed oil (GSO) on performance, rumen fermentation, antioxidant status and subcutaneous adipose fatty acid (FA) profile in lambs. Eighteen Baluchi lambs, 196 ± 14 days of age and 39.8 ± 1.7 kg body weight, were randomly assigned to three experimental diets: (i) diet without GSO (control), (ii) diet containing 2% of GSO (GSO2) and (iii) diet containing 4% of GSO (GSO4) for 42 days. Results showed that the experimental diets had no significant effect on dry matter intake and performance (p > 0.05). The supplemented diets with GSO had no effect on pH and NH3‐N of rumen fluid (p > 0.05), but GSO4 increased (p = 0.003) the concentration of propionic acid and reduced (p = 0.002) the concentration of acetate acid compared to the control. Inclusion 4% of GSO to the diet increased total antioxidant activity and decreased malondialdehyde in serum and muscle (p < 0.001). The level of blood glutathione peroxidase in diets containing GSO was higher than control diet (p = 0.02), but diets had no effect on superoxide dismutase in blood and muscle tissues (p > 0.05). The concentration of vaccenic acid, rumenic acid and linoleic acid and thus polyunsaturated fatty acid in subcutaneous fat was affected by experimental diets (p < 0.001), as control had the lowest amount of these FAs and GSO4 had the highest amount of them. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of GSO up to 4% improves the antioxidant status and adipose fatty acid profile in lambs without effects on performance.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of weight gain of calves within the first 3 weeks of life on health status and subsequent performance. Holstein bull calves were reared either intensively (IR; individual hutches and ad libitum milk feeding for the first 3 weeks of life; n = 24), or according to the established protocol [ER; 4 l milk/day in hutches during week 1 and 720 g/day milk replacer (MR) from day 8 to 21 in a group pen; n = 24]. Water, hay and concentrates were freely available to all calves. From week 4, calves of both groups were housed together in a group pen and fed 720 g MR/day; step‐down weaning was performed between week 5 and 10. Key metabolic blood parameters were analysed on day 2, 12, 21 and 70 of life. After weaning, all animals were fed concentrates and corn silage until slaughter at an age of 8 months. Within the first 3 weeks, average daily weight gain was threefold higher in IR calves in relation to ER calves (1.28 vs. 0.38 kg/day, p < 0.001). Neither incidence nor duration of scouring differed significantly between groups. Starter intake (week 4–10) was higher in IR calves in relation to ER calves (49.7 vs. 38.0 kg/calf, p = 0.006). Serum glucose, urea, albumin and insulin were higher at an age of 21 days in IR calves in relation to ER calves; no differences were obvious at an age of 70 days. Plasma GH and IGF‐I concentrations revealed an uncoupling of the somatotropic axis in ER calves within the first 3 weeks of life. At slaughter, body weight of IR calves tended to be higher than that of the ER calves (320 vs. 309 kg, p = 0.07). In conclusion, intensive feeding and individual housing during the first 3 weeks of life had positive long‐term effects on subsequent performance.  相似文献

Consumption of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) contaminated feed by poultry affects the health of broiler birds causing severe economic losses. The use of phytochemicals is a safe, effective, alternative and practical approach to combat the toxic effect of AF in broilers. Resveratrol, a polyphenol derived from red grapes, berries and peanuts, exerts anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects. Our study was aimed at evaluating the possible protective effects of resveratrol against the adverse effects of AFB1 in broiler birds. A feeding trial of 42 days of duration was undertaken in a completely randomized design with five dietary treatments: G1‐AFB1(1.0 ppm); G2‐CTR (basal diet alone); G3‐AFB1(1.0 ppm)+Resv 0.5%; G4‐AFB1(1.0 ppm)+Resv 1%; and G5‐Resv 1%. Gain in body weight (BWG) and feed intake (FI) was observed to be highest (p < 0.05) in the AFB1 birds followed by the control group. Feed conversion ratio was lowest in G2‐CTR birds and failed to record any significant variation (p > 0.05) between groups as well as within groups. Birds fed resveratrol at both 0.5% and 1.0% levels in combination with AFB1 as well as alone along with basal diet had lower BWG and FI between the fourth and fifth week and also at the fifth week (p < 0.05). No variation (p > 0.05) was obtained in the FCR of AFB1 and resveratrol group of broiler birds. AFB1 feeding significantly increased the activities of aspartate‐(AST) and alanine‐(ALT) amino transferase, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities (p < 0.05) but lowered glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride levels in serum. Supplementation of resveratrol helped in increasing the activities of the oxidative enzymes and in improving the plasma total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) and total protein (TP) significantly (p < 0.05) and protein values. The livers of AFB1 group showed degeneration of hepatocytes, bile duct hyperplasia and microgranuloma formation. In resveratrol supplemented birds, the severity and degree of the liver lesions was far less. Apoptotic proteins failed to show any variation in expression between AFB1, control and resveratrol group of birds. The inclusion of resveratrol in broiler diets enhanced antioxidant status of birds indicating the protective effect of resveratrol against AFB1‐induced toxicity. So, we advice use of resveratrol as a feed additive to control aflatoxicosis in poultry farms.  相似文献

Sulphur‐containing amino acids (SAA) are essential and usually the first limiting amino acids for growth, milk and wool production. The keratin fibre that grows from epidermal tissue is rich in SAA. The rate of fibre growth and its S content are influenced by the availability of SAA. Betaine is a dietary source for a labile methyl group and actively participates in methionine metabolism by donating methyl groups for the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Ruminants are capable of synthesizing SAA from inorganic S sources, and most bacteria in the rumen can use inorganic S to meet their requirements for growth. The objective of this study was to examine whether betaine and an inorganic sulphur supplement could provide methyl groups and sulphur amino acids in a way that growth performance and wool production of ewes and lambs are improved. Treatments performed included betaine supplementation, sulphate supplementation and betaine plus sulphate supplementation with five replications for each treatment. The dry matter intake of the ewes was affected by betaine plus sulphate supplementation (p < 0.05). In the ewes, betaine plus sulphate supplementation increased (p < 0.05) the wool growth rate, wool yield, staple length and wool sulphur concentration, while decreasing wool wax and wool yellowness (p < 0.05). In the lambs, wool growth rate, wool yield, fibre diameter, staple length, staple strength, wool sulphur concentration, wool wax and fibre percentage did not differ (p > 0.05) between treatments. In the ewes, plasma methionine concentration increased (p < 0.05) with betaine plus sulphate treatment. No corresponding difference (p > 0.05) was observed in plasma methionine concentration in the lambs. It can be concluded that betaine plus sulphate supplementation has the potential to change wool characteristics in the ewes, while these compounds were without any effect on growth and wool production of the lambs. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of juniper essential oil on the growth performance, rumen fermentation parameters, rumen protozoa population, blood antioxidant enzyme parameters and faecal content in growing Saanen kids. Thirty‐six male Saanen kids (36 ± 14 days of age) were used in the study. Each group consisted of 9 kids. The control group (G1) was fed with a diet that consisted of the above concentrated feed and oat hay, whereas the experimental groups consumed the same diet but with the concentrated feed uniformly sprayed with juniper essential oil 0.4 ml/kg (G2), 0.8 ml/kg (G3) or 2 ml/kg (G4). There were no differences (p > 0.05) in live weight, live weight gain or feed consumption between the control and experimental groups. There was a significant improvement (p < 0.05) in feed efficiency in the G3 group. There were no differences in the rumen pH, rumen volatile fatty acid (VFA) profile or faecal pH of the control and experimental groups. The rumen NH3N values were similar at the middle and end of the experiment, but at the start of the experiment, the rumen NH3N values differed between the control and experimental groups (p < 0.05). The faecal score value was significantly (p < 0.05) decreased in the experimental groups. The addition of juniper essential oil supplementation to the rations caused significant effects on the kids’ antioxidant blood parameters. Although the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and catalase values were significantly (p < 0.05) increased in the experimental groups (G2, G3 and G4), especially group G4, the blood glutathione peroxidase (GPX) value significantly decreased in the experimental groups. The results of this study suggest that supplementation of juniper oil is more effective on antioxidant parameters than on performance parameters and may be used as a natural antioxidant product.  相似文献
