Zooplankton, macrozoobenthos and feeding habits of Litopenaeus stylirostris and L. vannamei in monoculture and polyculture semi‐intensive experimental ponds were evaluated. Zooplankton was more abundant in monoculture of L. stylirostris (1002±670 organisms (org.) L?1) than in monoculture of L. vannamei (470±37 org. L?1), and polyculture (321±188 org. L?1). The main zooplanktonic groups were polychaeta larvae, nauplii, copepods and polychaeta. Macrozoobenthos was more abundant in polyculture (6898±11 137 org. m?2) compared with monoculture of L. stylirostris (3201±350 org. m?2) and L. vannamei (2384±3752 org. m?2). The main benthic groups were copepods, polychaeta, ostracods, nematodes and insects. Differences in feeding habits were found between species and regimes. Litopenaeus vannamei showed to be a more voracious species and fed mostly on organic detritus and benthos in both culture regimes. Litopenaeus stylirostris had a more restricted sources of feed in the ponds. The major component in the stomach content of both species was detritus. Macroalgae, sand, exuvia, formulated feed, prey and microalgae were minor components for both species (<7%). Ingestion of formulated feed was <4% for L. stylirostris and was not detected for L. vannamei. The stomach repletion rates were larger for L. vannamei (55.6% and 48.8%) than for L. stylirostris (43.75% and 44.89%). Litopenaeus stylirostris grew better in polyculture (10.3±3.4 g) that in monoculture (9.0±3.8 g). Litopenaeus vannamei grew better in monoculture (16.1±4.8 g) than in polyculture (13.4±4.5 g). For both species, feed conversion ratio was lower in polyculture.  相似文献

Litopenaeus vannamei is one of the most important species of farmed shrimp. The females have an ‘open’ thelycum. Mating is accomplished by attaching the male spermatophore onto the surface of the thelycum 4–6 h before spawning. During this period, sperm may have to undergo morphological changes associated with a capacitation process that has been described for other shrimp species. The objective of this research was to extend research on sperm capacitation in L. vannamei by ultrastructural and biochemical means. The sperm of L. vannamei were divided into those freshly prepared from the spermatophore (S‐sperm), extracted from the male gonopores, and those extracted from the female thelycum (T‐sperm). Under transmission electron microscopy, ultrastructural differences were detected between the S‐ and the T‐sperm in the nuclear material, the filamentous meshwork and the cytoplasmic particles. Under scanning electron microscopy, the difference was observed in the cap and spike regions. Immunofluorescence using confocal microscopy to detect tyrosine phosphorylated proteins revealed different distribution patterns between S‐ and T‐sperm. The location of phosphorylation activity changed from the spike in S‐sperm, to the filamentous meshwork in the T‐sperm. These morphological and biochemical changes confirm that capacitation of L. vannamei sperm takes place following mating.  相似文献

Electrical stimulation (4–6 V AC) applied near the male gonopores at the base of the fifth pereopods caused expulsion of the spermatophore in Penaeus setiferus, P. stylirostris, and P. vannamei. For healthy animals, some degree of spermatophore expulsion occurred in 80% of the attempts. Complete expulsion of one or both spermatophores occurred in only 47% (29–65%, depending on species). Shrimp with melanized terminal ampullae generally did not expel a spermatophore following electrical stimulation. The technique needs further refinement for routine use with penaeids.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of four diets formulated to contain increasing levels (0, 50, 100 and 150 g kg?1 of diet) of grain distillers dried yeast (GDDY) in production diets for Litopenaeus vannamei, reared in outdoor tanks or production ponds. The production pond trial was carried out in 16, 0.1‐ha ponds using four replicates per diet. Juvenile shrimp (38.1 ± 4.26 mg, initial weight) were stocked at 30 shrimp m?2 for a 16‐week period. The same four diets and a commercial reference diet were offered to shrimp maintained in outdoor tanks over a 12‐week period. A total of 20 tanks were stocked with juvenile shrimp (3.05 ± 0.22 g, initial weight) obtained from production ponds at a density of 30 shrimp per tank (40 shrimp m?2). At the conclusion of these trials, mean final weight ranged from 19.77 to 23.05 g, yield ranged between 4760 and 5606 kg ha?1, survival ranged from 69.6% to 89.4%, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) was between 1.02 and 1.23. Shrimp reared in the outdoor tanks confirmed the results of the pond trial. Mean final weight ranged between 18.12 and 18.97 g, survival ranged from 93.3% to 98.3%, and FCR was between 1.25 and 1.29. In both trials, there were no significant differences regarding mean final weight, FCR and survival among dietary treatments. Based on this study, GDDY up to 150 g kg?1 of diet can be used in L. vannamei commercial feed formulation.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were: (1) Compare two systems for pre‐maturation of Litopenaeus vannamei in terms of spermatophore and sperm quality, (2) Compare the effect of feeds with different protein levels on reproductive quality of males reared in a biofloc‐dominated system. Animals (36.40 ± 3.13 g) reared under biofloc technology (BFT) were used in the 30‐day experiment, which involved four treatments: one in a clear water system (CW) and other three in a BFT system. The BFT treatments were differentiated by feed: mix of fish, squid and crab (BFT+FF) composed of 68.48% dietary protein (DP); broodstock feed (BFT+BF) composed of 52.51% DP; and juvenile feed (BFT+JF) composed of 39.91% DP. Feed in the CW was also the mix of fresh food. Spermatophore and sperm quality were analyzed at the beginning and end of the experiment. Higher normal sperm rate was recorded in the CW compared with the BFT+FF. Among the BFT treatments, the BFT+FF had the lowest normal sperm rate. Thus, the use of BFT for pre‐maturation of L. vannamei allowed the reduction in dietary protein levels from 68.48% (BFT+FF) to 39.91% (BFT+JF) and the maintenance of spermatophore and sperm quality compared to the system based on high daily exchange rate.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of Litopenaeus vannamei in an intensive photo‐heterotrophic hypersaline system with minimal seawater replacement, and establish relationships between parameters of a stochastic production model and relevant water quality variables. Six experimental 1000 m2 lined ponds were stocked at a density of 120 shrimp m?2 for a 105‐day trial. Salinity increased from 37 to 45 ± 2 g/L, and the water level was maintained with the weekly addition of filtered seawater, equivalent to 1.6% per day. The stochastic model predicted that, at harvest, there is 95% confidence that the system produces between 12.1 and 14.7 t/ha with a mean final individual weight of 13.1 g and a mean survival of 84.2%. Sensitivity analyses showed that dissolved oxygen and individual final weight of shrimp were the main variables influencing yield variance. Nitrogenous compounds were maintained between optimal cultivation levels (NH3–NH4+ = 0.73 ± 0.43 mg/L, N–NO2? = 0.09 ± 0.05 mg/L, N–NO3? = 3.22 ± 0.11 mg/L). Heterotrophic bacteria (6.6 ± 3.4 × 105 CFU/ml) and chlorophyll‐α concentration (108.5 ± 80.2 μg/L) showed a similar development pattern, indicating a strong relationship between bacteria and microalgae during cultivation. Vibrio spp. concentrations were low (1.24 ± 1.42 × 103 CFU/ml). It was shown that the photo‐heterotrophic system could be used in hypersaline conditions, typical of semi‐arid regions, to consistently produce between 12.1 and 14.7 t/ha in 15 weeks.  相似文献

The effect of Streptomyces strains RL8 and N7 on the growth, survival and histological structure of the hepatopancreas of Litopenaeus vannamei was determined. Shrimp post‐larvae of 0.02 ± 0.01 g were fed with diets supplemented with Streptomyces spp. RL8 and N7 at 108 CFU g?1 of feed for 30 days, followed by challenge with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Toxicity was also assessed by recording the mortality associated with the use of 1‐100 g/L of cell mass and 108‐1010 CFU/g of feed of these strains in Artemia salina and Lvannamei, respectively. The group treated with Streptomyces sp. RL8 had significantly better weight gain (0.62 ± 0.18 g) and survival rates (84.44 ± 5.7%) after challenge, whereas the one fed with Streptomyces sp. N7 showed significantly higher survival rate (57.77 ± 6.8%) than the control group (0.55 ± 0.20 g and 11.11 ± 9.0%, respectively). The hepatopancreas of Streptomyces‐fed shrimps showed better histological integrity with significantly lower degree of atrophy and necrotic tubules than their unfed counterpart. No toxicity associated with these strains was found. Consequently, they can be excellent probiotic candidates to improve the physiological status and prevent infectious diseases of cultured L. vannamei.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate effects of dietary feed additives on growth and immunological status of Litopenaeus vannamei under cold exposure. Four experimental diets with 0.2% taurine, 0.01% carnitine, 0.1% cholesterol supplementation and control were fed to L. vannamei (IBW 0.86 ± 0.03 g) for 30 days at 30 ± 1°C before water temperature was dropped to 16°C with a rate of ?4°C h?1. Growth performance parameters including weight gain rate (WGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and survival rate before the cold exposure, as well as immunological parameters related to haemocytes including total haemocyte count (THC), percentages of hyaline cells (SC%), granular cells and semigranular cells (SC + GC%), non‐specific esterase (NSE) activity and apoptotic cell ratio before and after the cold exposure were determined. The results showed that: (1) WGR, FCE and survival rate were not significantly different among groups before the cold exposure. Most of immunological parameters did not differ either, except the apoptotic cell ratio of carnitine and cholesterol groups was significantly lower than that of control and taurine groups (P < 0.05). (2) After the cold exposure, THC was decreased by 48.1% (P < 0.05), 54.1% (P < 0.05), 30.1% and 2.2%; NSE activity was decreased by 31.7% (P < 0.05), 21.4%, 7.0% and 3.5% in control, taurine, carnitine and cholesterol respectively. (3) Conversely, ROS production was increased by 23.8% (P < 0.05), 15.1%, 7.2% and 13.0%; apoptotic cell ratio was increased by 10.4%, 12.8%, 6.4% and 7.2% in control, taurine, carnitine and cholesterol respectively. (4) An increase in HC%, decrease in SC + GC% in all groups was observed after cold exposure, and was significant in cholesterol group. This study showed that cholesterol, carnitine and taurine affected immunological status of L. vannamei under cold exposure to different degrees, possibly by modulating some immunological parameters, as discussed. Present study provides theoretical data for nutritional strategies to enhance cold resistance of shrimp.  相似文献

This study reports on the spermatological properties, and on the development of a protocol for refrigerator storage (4°C) of Labeo calbasu (Hamilton, 1822) sperm for artificial breeding. Volume, motility, concentration and pH of the freshly collected sperm were 2.21 ± 0.53 (μL g?1 of fish weight) (mean ± SD), 95 ± 1 (%), 1.93 ± 0.44 × 109 (cells mL?1) and 7.56 ± 0.17 respectively. Sperm activation was evaluated at different osmolalities of NaCl solution, and motility ceased completely when osmolality of the extender was ≥287 mOsmol kg?1. Sperm retained motility for 24, 72 and 108 h, after refrigerator storage when sperm were undiluted, suspended in Alsever's solution and suspended in Alsever's solution containing 5% methanol respectively. Fertilization rate of fresh eggs with sperm stored at 4°C in Alsever's solution and Alsever's solution containing 5% methanol was 77% and 60% with a hatching rate of 60% and 43% respectively. The fertilization and hatching success of the stored sperm suggests potential to use refrigeration for transporting genetic material to hatcheries for artificial breeding of L. calbasu in Bangladesh.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the probiotic properties of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains isolated from digestive tract of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Eighteen LAB colonies were isolated and one bacterium was found capable of producing three extracellular enzymes (protease, cellulose and lipase) simultaneously and exhibited antagonistic activity against shrimp pathogens (Vibrio vulnificus, V. rotiferianus and V. campbellii). The putative probiotic strain AS13 was identified as Lactobacillus pentosus based on 16S rRNA sequencing. The L. vannamei were fed diet containing 0 (control), 106, 107 and 108 CFU g?1 bacterial cells of AS13 for 28 days. The results showed that supplementation of L. pentosus significantly improved the growth performance and feed utilization in the treated groups over the control. Similarly, digestive enzyme activities were elevated in the intestines of treated groups. Moreover, feeding of supplemented diets containing AS13 significantly reduced the mortality rate caused by pathogenic Vibrio species (V. vulnificus, V. rotiferianus and V. campbellii). Our results indicated L. pentosus AS13 addition at 107 CFU g?1 can effectively enhance the growth performance, feed utilization, digestive enzymes and disease resistance of L. vannamei in the laboratory condition.  相似文献

The synchronous effects of aqueous Na/K and dietary potassium (K+) on growth and physiological characters was studied on the Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) reared in low‐salinity well water (4 ppt) for 8 weeks with initial weight of 0.28 ± 0.01 g. Three practical diets were formulated with supplement of 0, 0.3%, 0.6% K+ which contained 1.29 g/100 g, 1.60 g/100 g, 1.93 g/100 g K+ respectively. The supplement of K+ to the low‐salinity well water was 10, 20, 40 mg L?1 which formed Na:K ratios of 42:1, 33:1, 23:1 respectively. Results showed that when the aqueous Na:K ratio was 42 and dietary K+ was 1.93 g/100 g K+, the WGR and PER of L. vannamei were the highest and the FCR was lower than that of others (< 0.01). Supplement of K+ into well water and diets did not showed significant effects on haemolymph ammonia‐N, uric acid, urea content (> 0.05), but had a extremely significant effect on arginase activity and Cl? concentration (< 0.01). Moreover, similar results were observed in alkaline phosphatase (ALP), bacteriolytic activity (LSZ) and respiratory burst activity (O2?) (< 0.05). These results suggested that aqueous Na/K in the low‐salt well water and dietary K had significant synergistic effect on the growth, osmoregulation and immunity of L. vannamei. Concluded from the growth performance, nitrogen metabolism, osmoregulation and immunity, as the Na/K in the low‐salinity well water descended from 42 to 23, the requirement of dietary K+ was also decreased.  相似文献

We analysed the effect on production and economic performance of juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei of isoproteic diets substituting fishmeal by 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% with mixtures of wheat, soya bean and cornmeals. In a laboratory trial, 10 juveniles m?2 (1.1 ± 0.1 g) were reared in 60‐L plastic containers using a recirculation system for 90 days. Three replicates were used to test each diet. A commercial diet serving as a reference and the diet with the highest content of essential amino acids (50% substitution, 6.46 ± 1.1 g) produced significantly higher shrimp final weight (7.12 ± 0.9 g, < 0.05). There were not significant differences in specific growth rate and mean survival (85.9 ± 0.2%, > 0.05). In a pond trial, 10 shrimp m?2 (1.08 ± 0.3 g) were cultivated in 1.5 m?3 cages for 35 days, testing the diets in triplicate. Final weight was significantly higher (< 0.05) when 100% substitution was used (10.89 ± 0.24 g), while survival did not differ significantly among diets (> 0.05). The optimal level of substitution was estimated at 86.0%. Apparently, nutrients contained in the diets combined well with natural feed available in the pond, up to a point where 7.3% of fishmeal inclusion is recommended. An economic analysis showed that 100% substitution produced the best results. We conclude that mixtures of wheat, corn and soya meals are potential alternatives to replace fishmeal effectively in diets for L. vannamei.  相似文献

Infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) was first noted in blue shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris (Stimpson) in mid-1981. Since that time, at least 12 species of penaeoid shrimp have been reported to be infected with IHHNV. Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone) represents a shrimp species highly refractory to the disease, whereas L. stylirostris was highly susceptible to the disease. Since the beginning of the shrimp farming industry in Ecuador, viral diseases have been observed in L. vannamei and L. stylirostris. Of these, L. vannamei represents ≈ 80% of cultured shrimp. Histopathology, ultrastructure and in situ DNA hybridization confirm the presence and assess the prevalence of IHHNV in pond-reared shrimp, and especially in abnormally small animals of both species. Although IHHNV may be considered enzootic in cultured L. vannamei in Ecuador, we did not find high prevalence (Cowdry A bodies) in specimens of diseased pond shrimp before 1996. From that time to 1998, a higher prevalence of IHHNV has been observed in both species. The epizootic of the IHHNV disease has been related to the oceanographic and climatological conditions caused by El Niño. In addition, it has been suggested that large quantities of wild shrimp post-larvae of both species that were stocked in shrimp farms, infected as latent carriers in 1997, from which the virus could spread to a larger population of these shrimp in 1998.  相似文献

Nutrient apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of pet food grade poultry by‐product meal (PBM) were determined for black tiger prawn, Penaeus monodon and Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei by the indirect method (reference diet and test diet at 7:3 ratio). Subsequently, an 8‐week growth trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of substitution of fishmeal (FM) with PBM in diets of P. monodon (initial weight = 0.21 ± 0.01 g). In the growth trial, six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets PBM0, PBM25, PBM50, PBM75, PBM100 and PBMA100, containing a gradient of PBM 0, 88.7, 177.4, 266, 354.7 and 354 g kg?1 to replace 0, 92.5, 185, 277.5, 370 and 370 g kg?1 FM were fed to four replicate groups respectively. The diet PBMA100 was supplemented with DL‐Met to be similar to PBM0. The results showed that both P. monodon and L. vannamei had relatively high ADC of crude protein (77.6% and 84.2% respectively) and gross energy (72.8% and 84.0% respectively) for PBM. Litopenaeus vannamei showed significantly higher digestion ability for PBM than P. monodon (P < 0.05). In growth trial, no significant difference in growth performance was observed among shrimp fed the experimental diets. DL‐Met supplementation did not improve the growth of P. monodon. PBM is a suitable protein ingredient for P. monodon feeds and can be used up to 354.7 g kg?1 to totally replaced FM.  相似文献

The effects of different diets on spermatophore production and sperm quality were investigated in the river prawn Macrobrachium americanum. River prawns were cultured and fed with three diets for 244 days: fresh food (50% squid meat, Dosidicus gigas and 50% sardine muscle, Sardinops sagax); commercial pellets (35 Purina®); and a 50:50 mixture of both diets. Spermatophore production was recorded every 24 days on average as the percentage of spermatophores produced per extraction per diet, weight and biochemical composition. Sperm quality was measured as the total number of sperm, the proportion of live/dead sperm and normal/abnormal sperm morphology. There were no significant differences in the mean biochemical composition of M. americanum spermatophores for any of the diets. Biochemical composition was 36.3% protein, 25.8% carbohydrate and 4.6% lipids for all data pooled. The weight of spermatophores and sperm counts was not significantly different among diets, nor were there any differences as a function of the male initial total length (p > .05). Male river prawn reproductive exhaustion was observed as a decline in spermatophore production, weight of the spermatophores and the number of sperm cells per spermatophore, with an increasing proportion of dead and abnormal sperm seen throughout the experiment. The recommended period of maintenance in captivity for male broodstock is less than 115 days. It is recommended to feed broodstock males of M. americanum with commercial pellets because no significant differences were detected with the diets tested; pellets are easier to use, ensuring the same spermatophore production and sperm quality that was obtained with fresh food.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for spawning traits and growth traits in a breeding line of Pacific white shrimp, Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vannamei, selected for growth and survival. Traits studied were number of eggs (NE) and number of nauplii (NN) and female body weight at insemination (FWI) and body weight at 130 days of age (BW130). Genetic parameters were estimated using a multivariate animal model. Heritability for NE and NN were estimated as 0.13 ± 0.04 and 0.03 ± 0.04 respectively. The contribution to NN total variation due to ‘factors associated with male’ effect was estimated as 0.47 ± 0.07. In the cases of FWI and BW130, heritability was estimated as 0.44 ± 0.08 and 0.19 ± 0.03 respectively. Genetic correlation between FWI and NE was estimated as 0.49 ± 0.15, between FWI and NN as 0.54 ± 0.39 and between NE and NN as 0.27 ± 0.41, whereas the genetic correlations of FWI, NE and NN with BW130 were 0.30 ± 0.13, ?0.21 ± 0.19 and ?0.25 ± 0.38 respectively. Although it is important to perform more studies on this issue, our results found no evidence of a genetic antagonistic effect between female reproductive traits and body weight at harvesting (130 days of age) in P. vannamei.  相似文献

Long‐day photoperiods are considered as an effective managerial tool in manipulating of reproduction and somatic growth in a number of fish species. In this study, the effects of three different artificial photoperiods on the gonadal development and somatic growth of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss L.) were investigated. Two years‐old immature female rainbow trout (279.94 ±2.25 g) were exposed to three artificial photoperiod regimes of 24L:0D, 18L:6D and 6L:18D and natural light (NL) regime for 5 months. The highest gonadosomatic indices were recorded in NL and 6L:18D groups while the rates were significantly lower in fish maintained under 18L:6D and 24L:0D photoperiods (< 0.05). Mean oocyte diameters in fish exposed to 24L:0D and also to 18L:6D were significantly lower than the 6L:18D and NL groups. Photoperiods with 24L:0D and 18L:6D regimes resulted in significantly higher mean final weights and specific growth rates (SGR) than NL regime. The highest mean final weight (635.45 ± 16.19 g) and SGR (1.03 ± 0.04% day?1) were obtained under 24L:0D photoperiod. Fish exposed to 24L:0D and 18L:6D showed the highest condition factor as 1.44 ± 0.01 and 1.44 ± 0.02 respectively, when compared with the NL (1.27 ± 0.01) and 6L:18D (1.34 ± 0.02) groups. Basically, the results suggested that continuous artificial lightning can be used as an influential factor in delaying gonadal development and enhancing somatic growth in rainbow trout during gonadal growth phase.  相似文献

In a Biofloc Technology System (BFT), there is constant biofloc formation and suspended solids accumulation, leading to effects on water quality parameters that may affect the growth performance of cultured shrimp. This study aimed to analyse during biofloc formation the effect of different total suspended solids (TSS) levels on water quality and the growth performance of Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp in a BFT system. A 42‐day trial was conducted with treatments of three ranges of TSS: 100–300 mg L?1 as low (TL), 300–600 as medium (TM) and 600–1000 as high (TH). The initial concentrations of 100 (TL), 300 (TM) and 600 mg L?1 (TH) were achieved by fertilization before starting the experiment. Litopenaeus  vannamei juveniles with an average weight of 4.54 ± 1.19 g were stocked at a density of 372 shrimp m?3. Physical and chemical water parameters and shrimp growth performance were analysed. After 6 weeks, TSS mean concentrations were 306.37, 532.43 and 745.2 mg L?1 for, respectively, TL, TM and TH treatments. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were observed in TSS, settleable solids, pH, alkalinity and nitrite, especially between the TL and TH treatments. Similarly, differences (P < 0.05) were observed in the growth performance parameters, specifically final weight, survival, feed conversion and productivity. The water quality parameters at lower range of total suspended solids concentration (TL) treatment resulted in a better performance of L. vannamei in the BFT system. The maintenance at range of 100–300 mg L?1 TSS is thus important to the success of shrimp culture.  相似文献

This 97-day study, conducted during midwinter using a recirculating water system, was designed to evaluate the effect of light intensity and male and female eyestalk ablation on reproduction of P. vannamei and P. stylirostris. Four light intensities were established using various levels of fluorescent lighting (bright, 14.7 μEm-2s-1; moderate, 4.4 μEm-2s-1; dim, 0.6 μEm-2s-1; and dark, 0.0 μEm-2s-1) and the fifth consisted of artificial lighting supplemented with natural light through a translucent skylight (skylight, 4.7–9.3 μEm-2s-1). Unilateral eyestalk ablation was performed on all male P. vannamei in one of each pair of tanks within a treatment. In addition, half of the females in each tank were unilaterally ablated. Ovarian maturation, spawning, molting rate, and survival were monitored daily within each tank. Growth and gonad development were measured at termination. The optimum light intensity for P. stylirostris appeared to be lower than that for P. vannamei. P. stylirostris matured and spawned more frequently in the skylight and dim treatments than in the moderate, dark, and bright treatments. P. vannamei matured and spawned more frequently in the skylight, bright, and moderate treatments than in the dim and dark treatments. Natural light supplementation beneficially affected reproduction of both species. Male eyestalk ablation increased gonad size and doubled mating frequency of P. vannamei in comparison to unablated controls. This is the first documentation of increased penaeid shrimp reproduction by unilateral eyestalk ablation of males. Even more significant may be recognition that male gonadal development is a limiting factor in reproduction of shrimp in captivity.  相似文献
