The nutritional profile and the consumer preference of fish burgers made from carp, goldfish, perch, and tench were investigated. Perch and goldfish burgers, which have the highest proportion of eicosapentaenoic acid (6.63% and 4.90%, respectively) and docosahexaenoic acid (20.28% and 11.99%, respectively), showed lower absolute amounts of these fatty acids (17.03 and 10.10 mg/100 g food, respectively) than tench and carp (31.16 and 49.63 mg/100 g food, respectively). The consumer evaluation established that differences in the perception of the fish burgers exist. The overall liking and taste were the main attributes that influenced both consumer’s acceptance and purchase intent.  相似文献

Soil water balance researches aimed at improving crop water use efficiency often require the determination of soil evaporation. In this technical note, the performance of simple and cheap self-made microlysimeters for the measurement of soil evaporation was tested in an aerobic rice field managed by intermittent irrigation. Six microlysimeters obtained by cutting commercial PVC pipes and closing the bottom ends with caps were positioned in appropriate PVC outer casings installed into the soil. Three measurement campaigns (for a total of 11 measurement periods) were carried out in different vegetation cover conditions (rice development, rice maturity and after the crop harvest). Evaporation amounts were analysed with respect to climatic data, vegetation cover and soil water status and, finally, compared with the simulated results of a FAO Penman–Monteith “dual crop coefficient” model implemented with site-specific data. Evaporation rates in the three campaigns were closely dependent on the evaporative demand of the atmosphere ETo (R 2 = 0.96, 0.98, 0.96), while the slope of the linear regression curve was strongly related to the vegetation cover (b = 0.29, 0.12, 0.94); soil water content, always rather high during the experiments, did not affect the evaporation rate. Measured and simulated evaporation amounts showed a close agreement: the linear regression was characterized by slope and R 2 of 0.98 and 0.95, while RMSE and NSE indices were 0.15 and 0.94. From the tests conducted, we can conclude that the self-made microlysimeters presented in this note are affordable instruments for measuring soil evaporation, at least in temperate climate conditions.  相似文献

Equine infectious anemia (EIA) is an infectious and potentially fatal viral disease of equids. EIA virus is usually transmitted from horse to horse by large biting insects, such as horseflies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of a national surveillance plan from 2007 to 2009 and evaluate the potential risk factors of EIA in horse populations in central Italy. In 2007, 18 of 6,773; in 2008, 30 of 7,940; and in 2009, 21 of 11,666 equines tested were seropositive for EIA. No statistical association was found between location or sex and the diagnosis of EIA. The seroprevalence rate (2007-2008-2009) was higher among older equids (older than 6 years) than among young (3 months to 5 years old) (P < .05). Likewise, the seroprevalence rate (2007-2008-2009) was higher among mules than among other horses (P < .05). Until 2007, the national equine register did not exist in Italy; therefore, it was difficult to measure the percentage of untested horses that presented a real but unquantified risk for continued EIA virus transmission. By introducing new laws governing the control and conducting active surveillance for EIA, it has been possible, in Italy, to develop a firm foundation of knowledge concerning the persistence and transmission of EIA and the risk factors and to better control the spread of this infection in horses.  相似文献

A 9-year-old female spayed mixed-breed dog was presented to the referring veterinarian with a history of decreased appetite and difficulty with prehension and swallowing because of a firm oval mass in the tongue. On cytologic evaluation of a fine-needle aspirate of the mass there were numerous round to polygonal cells organized individually or in loose clusters with rare branching capillaries. The cells had eosinophilic granular cytoplasm, round to oval nuclei, and occasionally indistinct borders. The cytologic diagnosis was granular cell tumor (GCT) of the tongue. Impression smears of a biopsy sample of the lingual mass contained similar eosinophilic granular cells with variable numbers of clear vacuoles in the background, numerous perivascular arrangements, and occasional lipoblasts, suggestive of liposarcoma. On histologic examination the tumor was composed of numerous lipocytes with rare foci of round eosinophilic granular cells without evidence of vacuolation; occasionally, atypical mitotic figures were seen. Immunohistochemically, the cells were uniformly negative for periodic acid-Schiff and did not express smooth muscle actin, desmin, or cytokeratin but were immunoreactive for vimentin and S100. A diagnosis of well-differentiated liposarcoma was made on the basis of morphologic and immunohistochemical results. Eosinophilic granular cells may be a component of well-differentiated liposarcoma and are not limited to GCT. Liposarcoma should be considered in the differential diagnoses of lingual tumors in the dog when cytological evaluation reveals eosinophilic granular cells consistent with GCT.  相似文献

Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma centrale are rickettsial pathogens responsible for acute disease and mild infections, respectively, in cattle herds. A duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay with probes labeled with different fluorophores was developed for simultaneous detection and quantification of A. marginale and A. centrale DNA in bovine blood samples. The assay was able to detect as few as 10(1) and 10(2) DNA copies for A. marginale and A. centrale, respectively, with optimal specificity and reproducibility. Analysis by real-time and nested PCR carried out on 54 samples previously tested by reverse line blot hybridization showed that the established duplex real-time PCR assay can detect and quantify the 2 Anaplasma spp., even if present simultaneously in the same blood samples. Such an assay could be used in pathogenesis studies on bovine acute anaplasmosis.  相似文献

Bovine neonatal pancytopenia (BNP) is a recently described haemorrhagic disease of calves characterised by thrombocytopenia, leucopenia and bone marrow depletion. Feeding colostrum from cows that have previously produced a BNP affected calf has been shown to induce the disease in some calves, leading to the hypothesis that alloantibodies in colostrum from dams of affected calves mediate destruction of blood and bone marrow cells in the recipient calves. The aims of the current experimental study were first to confirm the role of colostrum-derived antibody in mediating the disease and second to investigate the haematopoietic cell lineages and maturation stages depleted by the causative antibodies. Clinical, haematological and pathological changes were examined in 5 calves given a standardised pool of colostrum from known BNP dams, and 5 control calves given an equivalent pool of colostrum from non-BNP dams. All calves fed challenge colostrum showed progressive depletion of bone marrow haematopoietic cells and haematological changes consistent with the development of BNP. Administration of a standardised dose of the same colostrum pool to each calf resulted in a consistent response within the groups, allowing detailed interpretation of the cellular changes not previously described. Analyses of blood and serial bone marrow changes revealed evidence of differential effects on different blood cell lineages. Peripheral blood cell depletion was confined to leucocytes and platelets, while bone marrow damage occurred to the primitive precursors and lineage committed cells of the thrombocyte, lymphocyte and monocyte lineages, but only to the more primitive precursors in the neutrophil, erythrocyte and eosinophil lineages. Such differences between lineages may reflect cell type-dependent differences in levels of expression or conformational nature of the target antigens.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of induced endometritis on uterine blood flow in cows. Transrectal Doppler sonography was performed on uterine arteries of six cyclic cows before and for 4 days after inducing acute endometritis by intrauterine infusion of 720 mg of policresulen, and for 4 days of the following estrous cycle. Time-averaged maximum velocity (TAMV) increased (p < 0.001) and pulsatility index (PI) decreased (p < 0.0001) within 1 h of policresulen administration, and did not change (p > 0.05) in the next 4 days of the same cycle. TAMV and PI values in the subsequent cycle did not differ (p > 0.05) from the values measured before infusion and showed no changes (p > 0.05) within the cycle. Blood flow parameters were not related (p > 0.05) to plasma concentrations of progesterone and estrogen. All cows showed an acute endometritis determined by histopathological findings of biopsy samples taken 1 day after infusion and fibrotic endometrial alterations detected in the subsequent cycle. No relationships were observed between fibrotic changes of the endometrium and uterine blood flow during either cycle. In conclusion, acute inflammation is accompanied by a rise in uterine blood flow, but fibrotic alterations do not seem to be related to Doppler sonographic findings.  相似文献

The decision to release a new transgenic crop variety for planting in the European Union (EU) is a decision under irreversibility and uncertainty. We use a real option model to assess the ex-ante incremental benefits and costs of the decision to release Bt maize and HT maize in the EU-15 member states. The analysis uses Eurostat data for modelling the benefits and costs of non-transgenic maize using partial equilibrium models. The farm-level benefits and costs of Bt maize and HT maize are derived from field trials conducted within the EU-funded ECOGEN project in combination with secondary data sources. Adoption curves, hurdle rates and Maximum Incremental Social Tolerable Irreversible Costs (MISTICs) are calculated at country level for selected EU-15 member states. In general, the results show that the MISTICs on a per capita level are very small confirming previous results calculated in values for the year 1995. The MISTICs per farm are much larger. This indicates a problem for decision makers.  相似文献

Conditions for the induction of triploidy with cold shock of fertilized eggs of the spotted sand bass Paralabrax maculatofasciatus (Steindachner) were investigated. Different temperatures (12, 8 and 4 °C), timing of cold shock application (5, 10 and 15 min after fertilization) and duration of the shock (5, 10, 15 and 20 min) were tested. Triploidy was determined using flow cytometry at 12 h after larvae hatched. Triploids were produced only when the cold shock treatment was applied 5 min after fertilization. No significant difference was observed in the percentage of triploidy between temperature and the shock duration. At 8 and 4 °C, 100% triploidy was obtained at different durations of cold shock. Survival was significantly lower at 12 or 4 °C than at 8 °C. No significant difference was observed for shock duration at the temperature of 8 or 12 °C; however, at 4 °C, survival was significantly lower at longer durations. We recommend induction of triploidy by applying cold shock at 8 °C for a duration of 15–20 min starting at 5 min after fertilization, in the spotted sand bass.  相似文献
