The selection of suitable markers from the secondary metabolism of lipoxygenase, in experimental olive oils produced from drupes harvested in different areas of the Italian Calabria region and of Tunisia, allows an easy discrimination between each cluster of samples. The origin of the foodstuff can be ascertained even when the distances between the production zones are very close to each other as in Calabria. Olive oils produced from irrigated and nonirrigated farms in Tunisia were also clearly distinguishable. The markers were detected by chemical ionization mass spectrometry with an ion trap gas chromatography-mass spectrometry apparatus. The quantitative data of Calabrian olive oil samples were subjected to linear discriminant analysis, whereas the Tunisian data were treated by means of other two statistical tools, i.e., the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Wald-Wolfowitz test.  相似文献

Effects of temperature on vitellogenesis in Japanese eel Anguilla japonica   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
ABSTRACT:   Cultured immature female Japanese eels acclimated to sea water at either 10 or 20°C were treated weekly with salmon gonadotropin fraction (sGTH) in order to investigate the effects of water temperature on artificial induction of ovarian maturation. In eels maintained at 20°C, ovulation was induced in 11 of 18 fish during the experimental period of 13 weeks, whereas at 10°C all fish showed a low gonadosomatic index (GSI) at the end of the experiment. Plasma vitellogenin levels were higher in eels kept at 20°C than in eels at 10°C throughout the experiment. However, no significant differences were observed in the plasma testosterone and estradiol-17β levels between groups. Eels pretreated with sGTHs at 10°C for 13 weeks were separated to two different temperature (10 and 20°C) groups, and received the same weekly sGTH injections. In eels transferred to 20°C, plasma vitellogenin levels, GSI and oocyte diameter were increased, but these values were maintained at low levels in eels that remained at 10°C. These results clearly indicate that water temperature is an important factor regulating vitellogenesis in the Japanese eel.  相似文献

Reasons for performing study: To improve the understanding of exercise related sudden death in Thoroughbred racehorses. Objectives: To describe the post mortem findings in cases of sudden death associated with exercise in 268 Thoroughbred racehorses. Methods: Gross and histological post mortem findings of 268 cases of sudden death were collated and reviewed. Cases originated from 6 racing jurisdictions around the world. Sudden death was defined as acute collapse and death in a closely observed and previously apparently healthy Thoroughbred racehorse, during, or within one hour after, exercise. Cause of death as determined by the attending pathologist was categorised as definitive, presumptive or unexplained and compared between the different populations. Cardiopulmonary lesions recorded at post mortem examination were compared between different populations. Results: Pathologists recorded a definitive cause of death in 53% (143/268) of cases. Major definitive causes of sudden death included cardiac failure, apparent pulmonary failure, pulmonary haemorrhage, haemorrhage associated with pelvic fractures or with idiopathic blood vessel rupture, and spinal cord injury. A presumptive cause of death was made in 25% (67/268) of cases and death remained unexplained in 22% (58/268) of cases. There were several statistically significant inter‐population differences in the cause of death and in reporting of cardiopulmonary lesions. Conclusions: Sudden death can be attributed to a variety of causes. Causes of sudden death and the lesions found in cases of exercise‐related sudden death are similar in different racing jurisdictions. However, the lesions are often not specific for the cause of death and determination of the cause of death is therefore affected by interpretation by the individual pathologist.  相似文献

Investigations onto the thermostability of β-amylase in 274 varieties of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) indicated that all varieties except one were distributed into three types of high (type A), intermediate (type B), and low (type C) thermostability, respectively. One variety (TB29) from China showed no β-amylase activity. Geographical variation was observed in the thermostability of β-amylase. Type C varieties were not observed in East Asia (Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China and Nepal), although 36 out of 37 varieties in Ethiopia were type C. Most of the varieties were Type A in Japan, the Korean Peninsula and China, whereas the frequency of type A and type B were nearly equal in Nepal. Varieties in the other five areas (North America, North Africa, Southwest Asia, Turkey and Europe) consisted of types A, B and C. These results support the fact that East Asian cultivars are genetically different from those of the western regions, as previously reported.  相似文献

Reproduction related immunoglobulin changes in rainbow trout   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:4  
Annual changes in plasma immunoglobulin (IgM) levels were investigated in three strains of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss which have different spawning periods, i.e., September–October, November–December, and January, reared under constant water temperature and natural day length. Plasma IgM levels decreased during the spawning season in all strains tested. The IgM changes became reversed in response to significant increases in plasma testosterone (T) and estradiol-17 in females and T and 11-ketotestosterone in males. Though the IgM decline showed a connection with suppressed immunocompetence, since many mature fish caught fungal diseases, no clear differences were observed in the plasma IgM levels between infected and noninfected fish during the spawning season. Incidentally, plasma IgM levels in infection prone fish were higher than in noninfection prone fish prior to the spawning season, whereas coincident differences in the plasma steroid levels were observed. Immature fish reared under lower water temperatures showed lower IgM levels. The effect of water temperature may have to be considered when analyzing the defense mechanism during the spawning season in rainbow trout.  相似文献

Reproductive physiology of an anguilliform fish, wild sea conger (Ariosoma meeki) was studied. Spawning season of this species is between July and August, and their oocytes showed synchronous development. mRNA levels of GTH subunits increased in accordance with gonadal development and decreased after spawning. Present results were inconsistent with our previous results in artificially matured Japanese eel.  相似文献

The decapeptide gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) has multiple functions, including the regulation of gonadotropin secretion, reproductive behavior, and cell proliferation. In this paper, we have found that in the medaka (Oryzias latipes) genome, gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) genes are adjacent to type IV protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) genes encoding PTPα and PTPε, which are known to regulate cellular activity via interacting with voltage-gated potassium channel. We have subsequently demonstrated using an in vitro medaka whole-brain culture system that GnRH downregulates the PTPα and PTPε gene expression. Inhibition of intracellular type IV PTP signaling, which probably results in the modulation of cellular activity, may account for multiplicity of GnRH function.  相似文献
