Two depth profiles of the osmium concentration and the 187Os/186Os isotopic ratio in the Indian Ocean showed that the osmium concentration seems to be unaltered by chemical or biological processes occuring in seawater; accordingly, osmium is conservative. These data were obtained from an experimental method that eliminated the problems related to osmium preconcentration. This method led to a new evaluation of the concentration of osmium in seawater; the mean concentration of osmium and the 187Os/186Os ratio are equal to 10.86 +/- 0.07 picograms per kilogram and 8.80 +/- 0.07, respectively. The results suggest the existence of an organocomplex that dominates the speciation of osmium in seawater. 相似文献

Quantum teleportation of optical coherent states was demonstrated experimentally using squeezed-state entanglement. The quantum nature of the achieved teleportation was verified by the experimentally determined fidelity Fexp = 0.58 +/- 0.02, which describes the match between input and output states. A fidelity greater than 0.5 is not possible for coherent states without the use of entanglement. This is the first realization of unconditional quantum teleportation where every state entering the device is actually teleported. 相似文献

Effects of small population size and reduced genetic variation on the viability of wild animal populations remain controversial. During a 35-year study of a remnant population of greater prairie chickens, population size decreased from 2000 individuals in 1962 to fewer than 50 by 1994. Concurrently, both fitness, as measured by fertility and hatching rates of eggs, and genetic diversity declined significantly. Conservation measures initiated in 1992 with translocations of birds from large, genetically diverse populations restored egg viability. Thus, sufficient genetic resources appear to be critical for maintaining populations of greater prairie chickens. 相似文献

Azathioprine, an anti-neoplastic drug and therapeutic immunosuppressant, was administered intraperitoneally at 10.0 and 50.0 mg/kg to 3-6-month-old tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Consistent alterations in immune cellular parameters of the blood, pronephros (hematopoietic kidney) and spleen were observed. Peripheral blood total cellularity decreased as the azathioprine dose increased, to approximately half that of the control. Differential analysis of white blood cells indicated a decline in lymphocyte number, in particular, with increased dosage of azathioprine. Pronephric total cellularity was depressed in fish receiving the 10.0 or 50.0 mg/kg dose. In contrast, both splenic weight and splenic total cellularity increased proportionately with the increase in the drug dosage. Histopathologic examination of the spleens showed normal patterns for both control and 10.0 mg/kg dose groups. At 50.0 mg/kg, spleens were characterized by marked expansion of the white pulp, although lymphocytes were rare. Melanomacrophage centers at the higher dose were also larger and more numerous than in the control group. Evaluation of splenic and pronephric leukocytes with apoptotic markers showed an increase in apoptotic cells in the pronephros with increasing drug dose. These changes in fish are consistent with those seen in humans and laboratory rodents dosed with azathioprine, suggesting that fish may be potentially useful as preliminary models for detecting immunosuppressive compounds. 相似文献

The total protein of gluten obtained by the cold‐ethanol displacement of starch from developed wheat flour dough matches that made by water displacement, but functional properties revealed by mixing are altered. This report characterizes mixing properties in a 10‐g mixograph for cold‐ethanol‐processed wheat gluten concentrates (CE‐gluten) and those for the water‐process concentrates (W‐gluten). Gluten concentrates were produced at a laboratory scale using batter‐like technology: development with water as a batter, dispersion with the displacement fluid, and screening. The displacing fluid was water for W‐gluten and cold ethanol (≥70% vol, ‐12°C) for CE‐gluten. Both gluten types were freeze‐dried at ‐10°C and then milled. Mixograms were obtained for 1) straight gluten concentrates hydrated to absorptions of 123–234%, or 2) gluten blended with a low protein (9.2% protein) soft wheat flour to obtain up to 16.2% total protein. The mixograms for gluten or gluten‐fortified flour were qualitatively and quantitatively distinguishable. We found differences in the mixogram parameters that would lead to the conclusion of greater stability and strength for CE‐gluten than for W‐Gluten. Differences between the mixograms for these gluten types could be markedly exaggerated by increasing the amount of water to the 167–234% range. Mixograms for evaluation of gluten have not been previously reported in this hydration range. Mixograms for fortification suggest that less CE‐gluten than W‐gluten would be required for the same effect. 相似文献
