The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the canine cranial cruciate
ligament repair system on laryngeal hemiplegia in heavy draft horses. Twenty-four heavy
draft horses diagnosed with grade 4 laryngeal hemiplegia were allocated to either the
prosthetic laryngoplasty (PL) group (n=14) or a canine cranial cruciate ligament repair
system (CCCLRS) group (n=10). Right to left angle quotients (RLQs) of abductions of the
arytenoid cartilages were endoscopically evaluated before and after surgery.
Post-operative RLQs in the CCCLRS group were significantly lower than those of the PL
group (P<0.01). The canine cranial cruciate ligament repair system was revealed to be a
good surgical procedure for laryngeal hemiplegia in heavy draft horses. 相似文献

Marbling, defined by the amount and distribution of intramuscular fat, is an economically important trait of beef cattle in Japan. The endothelial differentiation , sphingolipid G-protein-coupled receptor , 1 ( EDG1 ) gene has been considered as a positional functional candidate for the gene responsible for marbling. We have recently reported that 2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), c.-312A > G in the 5' untranslated region (UTR) and c.*446G > A in the 3' UTR in EDG1 were associated with marbling in Japanese Black beef cattle, but this was not functional and a causal mutation for marbling. In the present study, we detected 2 novel SNPs, referred to as g.1475435G > A and g.1471620G > T , in the 5' flanking region of the EDG1 between low-marbled and high-marbled steer groups, which were previously shown to have EDG1 expression differences in musculus longissimus muscle. The g.1475435G > A SNP seemed not to segregate in Japanese Black beef cattle. The g.1471620G > T SNP was associated with the predicted breeding value for beef marbling standard number by the analyses using Japanese Black beef cattle population. Based on these findings, we hypothesized that the g.1471620G > T SNP might have an impact on EDG1 expression and also marbling. 相似文献

A 42-day-old heavy draft horse fell into sudden astasia. Significant swelling and heat
sensation of the left femoral region were observed. Because of a friction sound in the
left hip, we supposed that the hip joint was dislocated or the hip bone was fractured.
Computed Tomography (CT) examination showed that the left hip joint was dislocated and the
left femoral head was disjunct. We carried out a pathological autopsy, and made a
diagnosis of the foal as fracture of the hip bone and femoral head with suppurative
umbilical arteritis. Pathologic changes in the umbilical artery and hind leg were
completely unilateral, suggesting that left umbilical arteritis spread to the blood
circulation, causing arthritis and dislocation of the hip bone. 相似文献

Our previous study detected a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), g.1471620G > T , in the 5' flanking region of the endothelial differentiation sphingolipid G-protein-coupled receptor 1 ( EDG1 ) gene, which has been considered as a positional functional candidate for the gene responsible for marbling, and showed association of the g.1471620G > T SNP with marbling in Japanese Black beef cattle. In the present study, we investigated the allele frequency distribution of the g.1471620G > T SNP among the 5 cattle breeds, Japanese Black, Japanese Brown, Japanese Short Horn, Holstein, and Brown Swiss breeds. The T allele at the g.1471620G > T SNP associated with high marbling was found at high frequency in Japanese Black breed that has been subjected to a strong selection for high marbling, while the allele was absent or at very low frequencies in the other breeds that have not been strongly selected for high marbling. Based on this finding, we hypothesized that the pressure of the strong selection for high marbling in Japanese Black breed has increased the frequency of the T allele at the g.1471620G > T SNP in the EDG1 . 相似文献

Causes of low seed set in white clover (Trifolium repens L.) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A field experiment was conducted to clarify the factors responsible for poor seed set in four white clover ( Trifolium repens L.) cultivars. Although the mean number of ovules per floret was 5·18–5·29, the average number of seeds per floret was found to be only 1·23-1·82. A stainclearing technique was used to examine the cytoplasmic state of the embryo sac in intact, unfertilized, mature ovules and it was found that 28–33% of ovules per carpel were sterile. The abortion rate of fertilized ovules and immature seeds (7 days after pollination) ranged between 32 and 34%. Beyond this period, it was observed that only a very small proportion of the total seeds were lost. The observation of high pollen fertility and a high pollen load strongly suggests that poor pollination does not account for the reduced number of seeds per floret. A 'nutrient competition' hypothesis was proposed for high ovule sterility and post-fertilization abortion of developing seeds. 相似文献

A 23-year-old Falabella gelding kept in Tochigi, Japan, for more than 20 years presented with a recurrent mass of the glans penis that was first noticed about a year earlier. Partial phallectomy was performed with no adjunctive therapy for local regrowth of the mass. The horse was euthanized 3 months after surgery for urinary retention due to suspected regrowth. The resected mass affected the genital and urethral mucosa of the glans penis, and was diagnosed as equine sarcoid by histopathology and identification of bovine papillomavirus (BPV) DNA. Phylogenetic analysis of the BPV genome of the sarcoid showed high sequence homology to BPV type 1 (BPV-1) from Hokkaido, Japan, suggesting a geographical relationship for BPV-1 in Japan. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: To quantify the contribution by cocultured animals to waste assimilation in an intensive shrimp farm in Thailand, the food web structures of the macrobenthos in a reservoir pond, a shrimp culture pond and water treatment ponds were examined using the stable C and N isotope ratio technique. Seawater for aquaculture was drawn from a creek, and stored in a reservoir pond, used for farming the banana prawn Fenneropenaeus merguiensis in culture ponds, and then recycled through treatment ponds where the green mussel Perna viridis was cultured to remove organic wastes discharged from the farming. The clam worm Nereididae sp. and the mud creeper Cerithideopsilla cingulata in the culture pond had δ 13 C values of −21.0‰ and −18.4‰, respectively, suggesting that shrimp feed (mean δ 13 C = −20.7‰) was the main food source for these species. The δ 13 C analysis also suggested that sediments (−23.7‰) in the reservoir pond and particulate organic matter (POM) (−24.0‰) and/or sediments (−25.0‰) in the treatment pond supplied carbon for most macrobenthic animals. However, green mussels in the treatment pond had a mean δ 13 C value of −20.5‰, suggesting that shrimp feed was the main food source for this species. 相似文献

The objective of the present study was to examine the relationship between plasma leptin levels and fat distribution in crossbred steers. Twenty-four crossbred steers (Japanese Black × Holstein) were used in this study. Six steers belonged to the growing phase (11 months of age), and 18 steers to the finishing phase (from 21 to 28 months of age). Plasma leptin levels correlated positively with body fat weight ( r = 0.807, P < 0.01), body fat percentage ( r = 0.802, P < 0.01), visceral fat weight ( r = 0.807, P < 0.01), visceral fat percentage ( r = 0.780, P < 0.01), subcutaneous fat weight ( r = 0.745, P < 0.01), subcutaneous fat percentage ( r = 0.734, P < 0.01), intermuscular fat weight ( r = 0.793, P < 0.01), intermuscular fat percentage (0.775, P < 0.01), renal fat weight ( r = 0.694, P < 0.01), renal fat percentage ( r = 0.642, P < 0.01), subcutaneous fat thickness ( r = 0.755, P < 0.01), intermuscular fat thickness ( r = 0.721, P < 0.01), beef marbling score ( r = 0.706, P < 0.01) and the crude fat content of Musculus longissimus thoracis ( r = 0.592, P < 0.01). The location of fat deposits did not affect the correlation values. However, when steers were divided into growing ( n = 6) and finishing ( n = 18) groups, there was no significant correlation between plasma leptin levels and the carcass characteristics related to fat deposition (fat weight, fat percentage, carcass traits) in either group. These results suggest that plasma leptin levels in crossbred steers positively correlate with body fat content and carcass traits when these parameters vary widely. 相似文献

To elucidate the role of harpins produced by Pseudomonas syringae, the corresponding hrpZ gene was isolated from P. s. pv. tabaci. The sequence information revealed that this gene carries a serious mutation with 326 bp lacking in the central region and
potentially encodes only 140 N-terminal amino acids because of a frame shift. The investigation of biological properties using
recombinant harpin indicated harpinpsta was incapable of inducing HR in both host and nonhost plants. Based on an immunoblot analysis to detect harpin from P. s. pathovars in hrp-inducing medium, the truncated harpinpsta was neither expressed nor secreted into the culture medium. These results suggest that harpin is not the sole determinant
of the host-parasite specificity in P. s. pv. tabaci.
