Reports of alimentary tract foreign bodies have been rarely reported in the equine literature. This Case Report concerns a mare who presented persistent fever and mild signs of colic. A metallic foreign body was found near to the diaphragm on radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations. A thoracotomy was subsequently performed by means of a 7th rib resection and a diaphragmatic incision made in order to remove the intra‐abdominal abscess containing a metallic foreign body. Peritonitis was the major complication and was managed during hospitalisation by multiple lavage‐drainage procedure of the abdominal cavity. Long‐term outcome (3 years) was good.  相似文献

The sonographic characteristics of intraabdominal abscesses in 11 foals and intraabdominal lymphadenitis in five foals with Rhodococcus equi infections are presented. Intraabdominal abscesses were usually present in the ventral abdomen adjacent to the ventral body wall, well‐marginated, and contained a mixed or complex echo pattern. Lymphadenitis appeared as singular or multiple clusters of lymph nodes of mixed echogenicity adjacent to any portion of the gastrointestinal tract or body wall. Sonographic findings were supported by necropsy examinations, but sonographic measurements consistently underestimated the size of abscess.  相似文献

本文对13例周岁绵羊自然发生的一种以角膜炎与化脓性肺炎为特征的疾病的病原学和病理学进行了研究。从39%的羊肺中分离到了溶血性巴氏杆菌、嗜血杆菌、伪结核棒状杆菌和绿脓杆菌。从多数肺中分离到未定型的支原体。衣原体被动血凝试验和补体结合反应为阴性。病羊血清γ球蛋白的绝对含量和总蛋白含量低于常值。病畜尸体极度消瘦。5例有明显的跟观肺炎实变区和多发性脓肿,肺与肋膜粘连。1例有双侧脓胸。5例有单侧或双侧性结膜炎或溃疡、穿孔或伴有晶状体脱出。病理组织学变化主要为化脓性或化脓出血性支气管性肺炎(6例)与间质性肺炎(4例)。1例肺泡腔渗出物中有合体细胞形成,1例有燕麦细胞。角膜病理组织学变化为角膜炎(8例)与角膜水肿(3例)。1例伴发化脓性晶状体炎。电子显微镜检查在角膜、肺炎区和角膜病料接种的第5代鸡胚卵黄囊膜中均发现有大小不等的杆菌、疑似衣原体颗粒。在1例角膜中有支原体,1例肺巨噬细胞中有衣原体包涵体类似物。将溶血性巴氏杆菌、绿脓杆菌、伪结核棒状杆菌以不同剂量联合感染豚鼠,滴鼻途径复制出了化脓性支气管性肺炎与肺脓肿。本病例是绵羊地方性肺炎的一型。本文还就其病原学、发病机理和实验复制等问题进行了讨论。  相似文献

AIM: To describe the pathology of crypt abscesses in the caeca of feral rabbits in the Manawatu region of New Zealand, and to examine the possible relationship between their prevalence and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) virus (RHDV) infection.

METHODS: During the course of a 3-year study of RHD, 173 wild rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were shot on three pastoral livestock farms in the Manawatu region of New Zealand. All rabbits were necropsied, and tissue samples of the caeca were examined histologically. The age of each animal was determined, and blood samples collected for the detection of RHDV antibodies. Logistic regression was used to model the odds of rabbits having crypt abscesses.

RESULTS: At necropsy, 63/173 (36.4%) rabbits were found to have small circular black nodules on the mucosal surface of their appendix caecum and/or sacculus rotundus. Microscopically, these were identified as small crypt abscesses composed of dilated sacs at the base of the mucosa that were often lined by a thin layer of attenuated epithelial cells. They usually contained large amounts of concentrically-laminated mucopolysaccharide material that was sometimes pigmented, inflammatory debris, and were often the site of a moderate multifocal appendicitis. Although RHDV was active in the study area, no association was found between RHDV antibodies in serum and the presence of lesions. The lesions were more common in older individuals and those born in summer or autumn.

CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report of crypt abscesses with inflammation and necrotic debris in the caeca of rabbits. No association between the occurrence of crypt abscesses and RHDV infection was identified. Wild rabbits born in a particular season were presumably exposed very early in life to conditions that caused the crypt abscesses to develop. Alternatively, association with season of birth may represent rabbits that were of similar age in a later stage of their lives, when they became exposed to the cause of the lesions, which remains unidentified.  相似文献

A 2-month-old Thoroughbred filly was referred to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute for further evaluation of acute pyrexia and a suspected intra-abdominal abscess based on abdominal ultrasonography performed in the field. Initial examination revealed bilateral uveitis, polysynovitis, a large internal abdominal abscess and pneumonia. A transtracheal wash confirmed the presence of a multi-sensitive strain of Rhodococcus equi. Anaemia and thrombocytopenia were noted during hospitalisation. Results of a Coombs test were consistent with an immune-mediated haemolytic process. Recurrent pyrexia, abdominal discomfort and severe respiratory distress unresponsive to intensive medical support motivated euthanasia followed by necropsy after 30 days of treatment. Overall, six extra-pulmonary disorders were simultaneously diagnosed despite the lack of pulmonary pyogranulomas.  相似文献

Staphylococcus aureus subsp. anaerobius, a microaerophilic and catalase-negative bacterium, is the etiological agent of abscess disease, a specific chronic condition of sheep and goats, which is characterized by formation of necrotic lesions that are located typically in superficial lymph nodes. We constructed an isogenic mutant of S. aureus subsp. anaerobius (RDKA84) that carried a repaired and functional catalase gene from S. aureus ATCC 12600, to investigate whether the lack of catalase in S. aureus subsp. anaerobius plays a role in its physiological and pathogenic characteristics. The catalase activity had no apparent influence on the in vitro growth characteristics of RDKA84, which, like the wild-type, did not grow on aerobically incubated agar plates. Restoration of catalase activity in RDKA84 substantially increased resistance to H2O2 when analyzed in a death assay. The intracellular survival rates of the catalase-positive mutant RDKA84 in polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) isolated from adult sheep were significantly higher than those of the wild-type, while no differences were found with PMN isolated from lambs. RDKA84 showed significantly lower survival rates in murine macrophages (J774A.1 cells) than the wild-type strains did, whereas, in bovine mammary epithelial cells (MAC-T), no differences in intracellular survival were observed. Interestingly, the virulence for lambs, the natural host for abscess disease, of the catalase-positive mutant RDKA84 was reduced dramatically in comparison with wild-type S. aureus subsp. anaerobius in two experimental models of infection.  相似文献

试验旨在查明2012年底甘肃省某奶牛场奶牛关节脓肿和腹泻的病因并选择合适的治疗药物。经牛病毒性腹泻黏膜病毒(BVDV)和牛轮状病毒(BRV)检测、细菌分离鉴定、小鼠致病性试验、药敏试验及血清中钙磷含量测定等综合分析,确诊该病是由致病性奇异变形杆菌和大肠杆菌混合感染引起的。这2种分离菌对青霉素、阿莫西林、庆大霉素、卡那霉素、四环素、氟哌酸及复方新诺明等常用药物严重耐药,均对氟苯尼考中度敏感。经氟苯尼考治疗和加强饲养管理后该病得到有效控制。  相似文献

开展对大连市长海县附近养殖海域近几年夏季出现的大规模虾夷扇贝死亡现象的研究,能为虾夷扇贝养殖过程中的疾病防治提供基础理论支持。以患病虾夷扇贝为研究对象,通过对病变组织进行细菌分离、提纯培养,并采用人工感染试验确定虾夷扇贝脓胞病的病原性质;通过生理生化特性、16SrRNA基因部分序列和药物敏感性测定,对虾夷扇贝脓胞病进行了鉴定。结果表明,从患病组织中分离出的其中一株细菌经人工感染试验证实为虾夷扇贝脓胞病的病原菌,在水温19℃、注射浓度为1.09×105CFU/mL的条件下,该菌有较强的致病性。通过对该病原菌的生理生化特性测定和16SrRNA基因部分序列分析,确定虾夷扇贝脓胞病的病原为查氏弧菌。  相似文献

This reports discusses a perforating metallic wire that was suspected of causing chronic weight loss, inappetance and pyrexia in a 15‐year‐old Standardbred gelding, due to the fact that during the previous 18 months, 6 horses coming from the same yard were referred for recurrent or acute colic related to the ingestion of metallic wires. Splenomegaly was detected ultrasonographically and confirmed during surgery. During necropsy, 2 metallic wires 0.2 mm in diameter and 3–4 cm long were found in a markedly enlarged spleen with several nonencapsulated abscesses. Metallic wire perforation and migration through the lower alimentary tract may involve different abdominal quadrants (intestine, abdominal wall, spleen, liver) and lead to different clinical syndromes as acute or recurrent colic and weight loss. A clinical diagnosis is challenging as the clinical signs are often nonspecific and prognosis is generally considered poor.  相似文献
