Data from six primiparous and nine multiparous Holstein cows were used to clarify the difference of Ca and P mobilization between primiparous and multiparous cows during early lactation. The dry matter intake (DMI) of primiparous cows was lower (P < 0.01) than those of multiparous cows. Milk yield was lower in primiparous cows at 7, 14, 21 (P < 0.01), and 28 days (P < 0.05) after parturition. There was no significant difference in milk Ca and P concentrations between primiparous and multiparous cows. There were no significant differences in plasma Ca and P concentrations between primiparous and multiparous cows. The plasma P level at 7 days postpartum in primiparous cows was lower (P < 0.05) than 28 days postpartum. The concentration of plasma osteocalcin (OC) measured as bone formation marker of primiparous cows was significantly higher than multiparous cows (P < 0.01) at 21 and 28 days postpartum. The urinary deoxypyridinoline (DPD) as bone resorption marker of primiparous cows tended to be higher (P < 0.10) than multiparous cows at 21 days after parturition and decreased to the same level as that of multiparae toward the peak lactation. Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (X. o. pv. oryzae) T7174 is virulent on rice cultivar IR24 and avirulent on IR-BB2. From recent reports, some virulence and avirulence factors
of plant pathogenic bacteria are transferred to plant cells through the hrp-dependent type III secretion system. In this study, we investigated the involvement of hrp genes in the compatible and the incompatible interactions between rice and X. o. pv. oryzae after co-inoculation with hrpXo mutants derived from T7174 and virulent strains. Growth of the mutants, named 74ΔHrpXo and 76ΔHrpXo, was repressed in IR24 when the mutants were applied alone. However, growth of the mutants was complemented by co-inoculation
with virulent strains. Growth of bioluminescent hrpXo mutant 76ΔHrpXo in IR24 and its growth in IR-BB2 after co-inoculation with T7133, which is virulent on both cultivars, was equally complemented,
as detected by bioluminescence from the mutant. On the other hand, only partial complementation of growth of T7174L76, which
is a bioluminescent and pathogenic derivative of T7174, by T7133 was observed in IR-BB2. Thus, growth of the hrpXo mutant of X. o. pv. oryzae was complemented by virulent strains in both susceptible and resistant rice leaves with the parental strain.

Six ruminally cannulated Wagyu (Japanese Black) steers (average initial bodyweight (BW) 387 ± 29 kg) were used in a split‐plot design experiment, comprising a 3 × 3 Latin square design (whole plot) and a randomized block design (subplot). The whole plot treatments were three different feeding levels of supplemental diet, fed at 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6% of BW, on a dry matter (DM) basis. Subplot treatments were two different supplemental diets: a potato pulp silage‐based diet (PPS) and a grain‐based diet (GRAIN). Chopped, medium‐quality cool‐season grass hay (predominately Timothy, Phleum pratense L) was fed daily at 0.7% BW (on a DM basis) as the basal diet. Each period consisted of 21 d, which included 11 d of adaptation to the diets and 10 d of the collection period. Chromium oxide was used as an indigestible marker. In situ forage degradation was measured using the nylon bag technique. The dry matter intake increased (linear; P < 0.01) as the feeding level increased and was not affected by the diet. Digestibility was not affected by any treatments. The GRAIN diet tended to decrease the rate of in situ forage degradation as the feeding level increased, but this trend was not found in the steers fed the PPS diet. Steers fed the GRAIN diet had a lower (P < 0.1) ruminal pH compared with steers fed the PPS diet. Ruminal pH was not significantly affected by feeding level; however, it was numerically higher for steers supplemented at 0.2% per BW than that for the steers supplemented above 0.4% per BW due probably to the higher starch intake. The total volatile fatty acids concentration numerically increased as the feeding level increased and was not affected by the diet. Increasing the feeding level decreased (linear, P < 0.01) the proportion of acetate. Neither diet nor the feeding level had any effects on the proportion of ruminal propionate. The results suggested that, for steers fed the PPS diet, there are not adverse effects on forage digestion in the rumen that occur as the feeding level is increased. 相似文献

Bovine babesiosis is a livestock disease known to cause economic losses in
endemic areas. The apicomplexan parasite Babesia bovis is able to invade
and destroy the host’s erythrocytes leading to the serious pathologies of the disease,
such as anemia and hemoglobinuria. Understanding the egress mechanisms of this parasite is
therefore a key step to develop new therapeutic strategies. In this study, the possible
involvement of Ca2+ in the egress of B. bovis merozoites from
infected erythrocytes was investigated. Egress was artificially induced in
vitro using calcium ionophore A23187 and thapsigargin to increase
Ca2+ concentration in the cytosol of the parasite cells. The increased
intracellular Ca2+ concentration following these treatments was confirmed using
live cell Ca2+ imaging with confocal laser scanning microscopy. Based on our
findings, we suggest a Ca2+ signalling pathway in the egress of B.

Tick-borne diseases are often encountered in canine clinical practice. In the present
study, a molecular epidemiological survey of dogs in Japan was conducted to understand the
prevalence and geographical distribution of Babesia spp.,
Hepatozoon spp., Ehrlichia spp. and
Anaplasma spp. Pathogen-derived DNA in blood samples obtained from 722
dogs with a history of exposure to ticks and/or fleas was examined by PCR. The prevalence
of Babesia gibsoni, Babesia odocoilei-like species,
Hepatozoon canis and Ehrlichia
spp./Anaplasma spp. was 2.4% (16/722), 0.1% (1/722), 2.5% (18/722) and
1.5% (11/722), respectively. While B. gibsoni and
Ehrlichia spp./Anaplasma spp. were detected in the
western part of Japan, H. canis was detected in Tohoku area in addition

The objective of this study was to examine the health and meat production of cloned sows
and their progenies in order to demonstrate the application of somatic cell cloning to the
pig industry. This study compared the growth, reproductive performance, carcass
characteristics and meat quality of Landrace cloned sows, F1 progenies and F2 progenies.
We measured their body weight, growth rate and feed conversion and performed a
pathological analysis of their anatomy to detect abnormalities. Three of the five cloned
pigs were used for a growth test. Cloned pigs grew normally and had characteristics
similar to those of the control purebred Landrace pigs. Two cloned gilts were bred with a
Landrace boar and used for a progeny test. F1 progenies had characteristics similar to
those of the controls. Two of the F1 progeny gilts were bred with a Duroc or Large White
boar and used for the progeny test. F2 progenies grew normally. There were no biological
differences in growth, carcass characteristics and amino acid composition among cloned
sows, F1 progenies, F2 progenies and conventional pigs. The cloned sows and F1 progenies
showed normal reproductive performance. No specific abnormalities were observed by
pathological analysis, with the exception of periarteritis in the F1 progenies. All pigs
had a normal karyotype. These results demonstrate that cloned female pigs and their
progenies have similar growth, reproductive performance and carcass quality
characteristics and that somatic cell cloning could be a useful technique for conserving

ABSTRACT: The effect of dietary taurine on juvenile Japanese flounder was determined by feeding three taurine-supplemented experimental diets (TAU) and a commercial diet (CD) to evaluate a practical diet for juvenile Japanese flounder. Juvenile Japanese flounder were reared on the three experimental diets supplemented with taurine at 0, 0.5, 1.0% and CD. These diets were fed to juvenile Japanese flounder of an initial mean body weight of 0.2 g for 6 weeks at 20°C and the taurine contents of the whole body and tissues were analyzed. The final average body weight of juvenile Japanese flounder fed the 1.0% TAU was significantly higher than that of the other groups. Taurine contents in the whole body and tissues increased with the increase in dietary taurine level. These results indicate that juvenile Japanese flounder require at least 15 mg/g taurine in the diet, even though a combined mix of fish, krill and squid meal was the main protein source in the experimental diets. 相似文献

Genetic improvement of the reproductive performance of pigs is important for pig breeding despite their low heritabilities. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of selection concerning reproductive traits and to determine the optimal number of parity records required for accurate estimation of breeding values (BVs) in the open population of a commercial pig breeding company. The study used records of 2220 purebred Large White pigs (9845 litters) farrowed between 1998 and 2009 in the two herds of the Pacific Ocean Breeding Co. Ltd. The traits studied included farrowing interval (FI), total number of piglets at birth (TNB), average weaning weight per litter (AWW), and raising rate (RR). A statistical model was applied to the 4‐trait repeatability animal model. The heritabilities of FI, TNB, AWW and RR were low. The genetic trends in TNB (h2 = 0.09) showed approximately 1.0 increase in 6 years from 2003 to 2008. The predicted error variances indicated that up to fourth parity records are necessary for accurate genetic evaluation. The present study results indicated that even reproductive traits with low heritability can be improved. 相似文献

We investigated the changes in the plasma concentrations of oxidative stress markers in periparturient dairy cows in hot conditions. This study was performed on 10 cows from day ?5 to day 10 after parturition. The experimental duration was divided into three periods: period 1 (5 days before parturition); period 2 (5 days after parturition); and period 3 (from day 6 to day 10 after parturition). The average rectal temperature in the cows during the experimental period was more than 39°C. Plasma aspartate aminotransferase activities in periods 2 and 3 were higher than that in period 1 (P < 0.05). Blood urea nitrogen concentration in period 3 was lower than those in periods 1 and 2 (P < 0.05). The total ascorbic acid concentration in the plasma in period 2 was greater than those in periods 1 and 3 (P < 0.05). Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) concentrations in periods 2 and 3 were greater than that in period 1 (P < 0.05). TBARS concentration was positively correlated with aspartate aminotransferase activity (P < 0.05). These results suggested that oxidative stress increased in cows after parturition under hot climatic conditions. 相似文献
