Alginate-gelatin beads with dispersed droplets of a model pheromone, dodecyl acetate, were prepared as a vehicle for slow release of pheromones into the atmosphere over a prolonged period of time. The beads are prepared in two steps, the first being preparation of an oil-in-water emulsion composed of dodecyl acetate as the oil phase and gelatin as the emulsifier, which provides steric stabilization. After mixing with alginate solution, this emulsion is embedded within beads by simple electrostatic cross-linking. It was found that bead porosity at micrometric and nanometric scales plays an important role in controlling the release of dodecyl acetate.  相似文献

Summary Several varieties of Cucurbita moschata were found resistant to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). Inter-specific hybridization between C. pepo and a CMV resistant variety of C. moschata resulted in partial fertile hybrids which set F2 seeds. Cotyledonary inoculation of F2 seedlings with CMV brought various results, depending on seasonal differences and developmental stages at which observations were made. Resistance to CMV generally declined under conditions of low temperature, short days and low light intensity.  相似文献

Interactions of the herbicide sulfentrazone with the cationic surfactants octadecyltrimethylammonium (ODTMA), hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA), and benzyldimethylhexadecylammonium (BDMHDA) have been studied for the design of slow-release formulations based on sulfentrazone adsorbed on a micelle-montmorillonite complex. Adsorbed amounts of sulfentrazone on ODTMA- and BDMHDA-montmorillonite complexes were 99.2-99.8% of that added, and desorption of herbicide in water during 24 h was low. After 10 washings in funnels with soil, only 2.6% of herbicide was released from ODTMA-montmorillonite formulations versus 100% release from the commercial formulation. The strong binding of sulfentrazone to micelles was confirmed by pH and spectroscopic measurements and was explained by the formation of ionic pairs between cationic surfactant and anionic herbicide. The ODTMA-clay and commercial formulations of sulfentrazone yield almost complete and 40% growth inhibition of green foxtail, respectively, at 700 g of active ingredient/ha. Hence, the slow release from micelle-clay formulations of sulfentrazone promotes its biological activity and reduces environmental contamination.  相似文献

The effects of mammary gland bacterial infection and stage of lactation on leukocyte infiltration into the mammary gland were compared among cows, goats and sheep. Animals were at two stages of lactation: mid or late. In mid-lactation animals, bacterial-free glands and coagulase negative Staphylococcus (CNS)-infected glands were compared. In late lactation only uninfected glands were studied. Of mid-lactation bacteria-free animals, goats had the highest number of leukocytes and % polymorphonuclears (PMNs), whereas sheep had the lowest and leukocytes number in cows were intermediate between sheep and goats. Based on %PMN, two cell clusters were found in sheep, which overlapped with the parallel cell clusters of cows and goats, but with a slightly higher number of leukocytes in each cell cluster. At late lactation, goats had higher values for %PMN and leukocyte numbers in comparison to cows, which had a similar cellular profile to sheep. The cellular immune response to CNS infection was similar for the three animal species, although the number of cells was different, while the basal cell level at mid-lactation and especially at the end of lactation was species specific.  相似文献

Storage insects are aerobic organisms requiring oxygen for their survival. Therefore, they respond to altered atmospheric gas compositions containing low O2 or high CO2. The lower the grain moisture content (m.c.) and the corresponding intergranular humidity, the higher the mortality??due to the desiccation effect on insects caused by low O2 or elevated CO2 concentrations. To achieve insect control, the temperature of the grain should be above 21?°C. Hermetic storage is based on the principle of generation of an oxygen-depleted, carbon dioxide-enriched interstitial atmosphere caused by the respiration of the living organisms in the ecological system of a sealed storage. A sufficiently low oxygen and elevated CO2 atmosphere is created through a natural metabolic process based on insect respiration and, in cases where the commodity has sufficiently high moisture, the respiration of the microorganisms within a sealed storage system. An O2 ingress rate of 0.05?%/day is sufficient to arrest the theoretical weight loss at a level of 0.018?% over 1-year storage period. At this ingress rate, the possibility of a residual surviving insect population is eliminated. This low O2 ingress level could serve as a guideline for the sealing specifications of structures appropriate to the hermetic storage method. The applications for which hermetic technology has been most widely accepted are (a) for long-term storage of cereal grains, primarily rice, corn, barley, and wheat; (b) for long-term storage of a variety of seeds to preserve germination potential and vigor, and (c) for quality preservation of high-value commodities, such as dried fruits.  相似文献

An 11‐year‐old Oldenburg mare presented following three episodes of acute, transient blindness, ataxia, and disorientation within the preceding 7 months. Clinical improvement, including return of vision, occurred within 1 week of initiating corticosteroid therapy for each of the three episodes. However, mild right‐sided miosis was a consistent finding on ophthalmic examinations. Routine clinicopathologic testing revealed no significant abnormalities, and testing of cerebral spinal fluid for selected infectious diseases was unrewarding. Computed tomography of the brain demonstrated a hyperattenuating mass with peripheral mineralization in the rostroventral aspect of each lateral ventricle. The mare was euthanized due to a guarded to poor prognosis. On histopathology, the masses consisted of clusters of cholesterol clefts admixed with leukocytes, mineral deposits, and connective tissue. Cholesterinic granulomas of the lateral ventricles and hydrocephaly were diagnosed. Cholesterinic granulomas should be considered a differential diagnosis in horses presenting for intermittent blindness.  相似文献

在以色列和菲律宾分别救星地PVC方包仓、筒仓露天储藏小麦、玉米和稻谷试验。对气密储藏、充CO2储藏及自然环境下储藏进行了比较。对储藏的不同水分谷物的品质变化、PVC透气性、抗虫及抗鼠性能进行了研究。试验表明PVC气密粮仓不使用化学杀,有利于环境保护,适用于粮食的中短期及应急储藏。  相似文献
