Effects of Feeding Different Levels of Calcium and Phosphorus Diets on Nutrient Digestion and Metabolism,Plasma Physiological-Biochemical Indices of Yili Mares during Late Pregnancy
Abstract:The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of feeding different levels of calcium ( Ca) and phosphorus ( P) diets on nutrient digestion and metabolism, plasma physiological-biochemical indices of Yili mares during late pregnancy, and to provide references for exploring the requirements of Ca and P of Yili mares during late pregnancy. Twenty-five unrelated Yili mares during late pregnancy with similar age, body weight ( BW) and parity were selected, which randomly divided into five groups according to the BW, and each group had 5 mares. The daily feeding amounts of Ca and P of five groups were 36.00 and 26.30 g/d ( dietⅠ group) , 39. 00 and 28. 30 g/d ( diet Ⅱ group ) , 42. 00 and 30. 30 g/d ( diet Ⅲ group ) , 4. 50 and 32.30 g/d ( diet Ⅳ group) , and 48.00 and 34.30 g/d ( dietⅤ group) , respectively. The feeding trial period lasted for 30 days including 10 days for preliminary trial and 20 days for formal trial. Samples of diets, feces and urine were collected during the experimental period for measuring the contents of nutrients, and the fasting blood samples were collected at the end of the trial to determine the contents of plasma physiological-biochemi-cal indices. The results showed that dietary Ca and P levels had no significant effect on the apparent digestibility of nutrients ( P>0.05) , and had no significant effects on the retention rates of gross energy, nitrogen, Ca and P and the availabilities of digestible energy, digestible nitrogen and digestible P (P>0.05). Meanwhile, the levels of plasma Ca2+, parathyroid hormone ( PTH ) , calcitonin ( CT ) , placental lactogen ( PL ) , pituitary prolactin (PRL), progesterone (PROG), thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine thyroxin (T3) and insulin like growth factor-Ⅰ(IGF-Ⅰ) showed no significant difference within the five groups (P>0.05). In addition, there were no significant effects of dietary Ca and P levels on the levels of plasma creatinine ( CREA) , urea ni-trogen ( UN) , triglyceride ( TG) and free fatty acid ( FFA) ( P>0.05) . The availability of digestible Ca of the diet Ⅰ,ⅡandⅢgroups was significantly higher than that of dietⅤgroup ( P<0.05) , and the availability of digestible Ca was decreased when dietary Ca and P levels exceeded 42. 00 and 30. 30 g/d, respectively. The level of plasma P of dietⅡ andⅤ groups was significantly higher than that of dietⅣ group ( P<0.05) . With the increase of dietary Ca and P levels, plasma CT level had a increasing tendency except the diet Ⅴ group (P<0.01). The level of plasma oestradiol (E2) of diet Ⅳ and Ⅱ groups was significantly lower than that of the diet Ⅰ group (P<0.05), and that of diet Ⅲ group was significantly lower than that of diet Ⅰ and Ⅴgroups (P<0.05). The variation tendency of plasma estrone (E1) level was consistent with E2. In addition, increasing the dietary Ca and P levels could increased the level of plasma growth hormone ( GH) , and that in diet Ⅰ group was significantly lower than that of other groups except diet Ⅲ group ( P<0.05) . In summary, when the dietary Ca level between 36.00 to 48.00 g/d and P level between 26.30 to 34.30 g/d, increasing di-etary Ca and P levels do not affect the nutrient digestion and metabolism of Yili mares during late pregnancy, but decrease plasma E1 and E2 levels, and increase GH level.
